Default Swap the panorama roof for a carbon roof F-Type R AWD MY 2017

Hello all,

has anyone tried this before? Is this possible afterwards?

I know at least one person reported doing so as part of modifying the car for the track. He was based in Sweden but I can't remember the username. I believe he also upgraded to an LSD as part of the project, and crashed the car, then got it repaired over a number of months. Try searching based on those clues.

Or someone may be more awake than I and know off the top of their head.

EDIT: Got it with a three-word search:

I get the weight savings...but first sit in a car without the panorama roof for 30 minutes and think.....this is all I get.

The panorama roof is, to me, key to making the car not claustrophobic. It is my targa if you will. I'd never remove the roof unless I was turning the car into a full on stripped track car...and if I was doing that I'd likely just get a miata...had a 996gt2 track monster once. So I get it. It is a slippery, expensive slope....

totally agree; I have always had sunroofs or targa tops and while I don't love convertibles, i like being able to vent the roof or at least see out of it.. That said, I look the look of the carbon roof - I would love a panoramic roof with a carbon surround, like where the black glass is now - best of both.

If it’s just the look you’re after have you considered wrapping?

The weight savings (and handling difference) on a car this heavy won’t be particularly material.

Cant speak for every product offering but I have purchased many brands and version of carbon fiber wrap and none of them look even close; especially over a large area and where real carbon fiber is present nearby for comparison.

This. IMHO the pano roof is key in this car and I could never live with an F-Type coupé without it.

not only the roof brings something for handling! Carbon Roof, Lithium Batterie, KW Coil Springs, Recaro Seats, lighter Brembo Brakes, lighter rims,
round about 250 lbs....

I cut back on the sweets and other carbs. Pajama pants instead of Levis. I might try helium in the tires. Occasionally I tell my wife to pick up her feet when we get on the highway, that feels a little quicker. I'm not much help.

I’m sure it’s possible. The glass is bonded to the roof. If you can remove the glass without breaking, it could be used to make a mould to lay-up the carbon fiber cloth. I’m sure you could find a custom shop (automotive, aero or marine) that could do a one-off panel. You have to be careful to use high UV protecting clear coat though, as the raisin breaks down fairly quickly from sunlight. Also, you need to bond the panel to the car with non-conducting adhesive to prevent galvanic corrosion with the aluminum roof frame. So, whoever you get to do the job, they would need to know these things.

if you can figure out how to remove the glass roof, you could do the CF panel yourself. 😀

Andi,

This what you contemplating is pretty crazy and I can only imagine what kind of Pandora's box you are opening. It will most certainly empty your bank box and really for what purpose? To save you some additional kilos? In addition to the items you mentioned change the muffler and save some kilos, but please don't mess with that roof which is only asking for trouble. In Germany I would imagine that anytime you can get some additional light into the car that would be a big plus..... Tu es nicht
