Switching from Audi - Realistic to get into an F-Type R?
Hi All -
Longtime Audi driver here - I have a 2018 TT RS on factory order, due to be built/delivered mid-August. I was driving past a local Jaguar dealership and on a whim test drove a 2017 R. The rest, as they say is history. I was completely seduced by this exquisite machine!
That said, the R sticker is a bit above my price target (not interested in the S). The TT RS is $74k. I was about to move on until I started reading about some of the deals people seem to be getting on the '17 models, with 20-30% discounts. If I can get into the $80-85k range this could become a feasible purchase for me. I'll be purchasing outright, not leasing or financing.
In particular, I've seen a demonstrator with a sticker of $111-ish and a couple hundred miles on it. Factory warranty would be full 5 years.
I've never had any experience negotiating on a Jag, so before I open discussions with the dealer, It would be great to get any input on (1) the feasibiity of a 20-30% discount and (2) any tips or nuances specific to this brand I should be aware of.
Can you post some form of source on that "20-30% discount" on a brand new 2017 R?
I'm not saying I don't believe it... Well, yes i am.
You could be right, it's all anecdotal which is why I'm trying to figure out what the reality is. The only hard data point I have is that a colleague's freind in IL recently purchased one in IL sticker was $111, he paid $89k, which is 20% off. Car had 15 miles on it, and was glacier white with a black/red interior (not an odd or unpopular color combination).
There have also been a couple of comments in threads in this forum that imply the same:

First one is a lease, - $108,458 MSRP
- $98,000 Selling price, that's ~10% not 20%.
Second thread people said he should ask for 30% off, guy pretty much said dealer wouldn't budge on it.
I'm not by any means saying it's not possible... I'd snag one in a heartbeat brand new for that price. I just have never seen it and I've done a TON of searching over the past year before I pulled the trigger on a 1 owner. Best of luck to you in your search I hope you find it!
Prior to buying mine, the local dealer had some 2016's that had been reduced from 108k down to 85-87k. This was heading into the end of the year (2016). This likely happens every year as they try and move out the last of their inventory. One issue (obviously) is the selection will be lower and limited to just a few vehicles. I ended up getting a 2015 with 1500 miles on it, sticker - 118k, my cost - 81k. There was still the factory warranty and I negotiated a 7 year extended. So the deals are there if you are willing to be patient. Good luck!!

Another 2017 demo advertised with a 20% discount. I wish I was into the convertible :-)

Wow that is a great deal. I'm in no rush, and glad to hear that there are some great deals to be had on this amazing car! Thanks all for the thoughts and info. I will report back!
Have you driven an "S"? It might actually surprise you. There are plenty of threads on this Forum about the pros and cons of each but in my humble opinion I wouldn't dismiss an "S" outright without making, at least, a cursory comparison and, surely, driving it.

Good luck in any case.
Its a great point, you are right I suppose I should do that. I guess I'm just enamored by the idea of a V8 as it seems to be a dying breed may not even be possible to buy new in a few years..and that sound....

While there is far more than the just sound, glorious though it is, I can assure you - as other's here will attest to - the V6S is no ***** cat.
Never understood the fixation of having to buy new. My R was $107k sticker and $66k used + the first owner added all sorts of extras I would have had to spend cash on - coating, clear protect, tint.
Lots of great cars in the 60-70k range fully loaded like new if one is patient. Let someone else take the 40% 'I bought mine new' haircut.
I bought my 16 R last April for 20 % off sticker with less than 100 miles with 4 months of warranty expired, 111k sticker. You can get low mileage up to new or dealer purchased for 20 percent off on a 2017. You need to shop, and out of your area also. Shipping from out of state is also not as expensive as you might think. Color and options may be not exactly what you want, but this car looks great in every color. I did see a British racing green with red and black interior that I wouldn't buy.
