Default Tail Pipe Tip Cleaners

Here is a before (left) and after picture of the cleaned and polished tail pipe tips. Not sure what others are using however the Wrights silver cleaner seems to do a mighty fine job.

Magic Eraser is an abrasive, so I'd be careful with that.

Microfibre cloth dipped in the wash bucket. As time moves on, Autosol may be required, but not so far.

They just look better with tons of carbon build up. Lets others know that you really DRIVE the car.

Not on an F type, but on my Audi A6 from new and now at 118k miles the tips still look like new.
The tips on my XJ although barely a year old again still look like new.

The only treatment I give them?
They get thoroughly washed every time I wash the car ( which is often ) EVERY time as part of my wash routine........

It really is that simple.
If they do need to be brought back at any time, I've used Autosol on others with great success

+1, with a little car wash soap. That's all I've needed.

I use Eagle One Nevr-Dull to clean the pipes and all the chrome on my Harley. It's a merino wool impregnated with polish. Does a fantastic job.

Seems to me the V6 tips stay remarkably clean whereas the V8's are sooty as all hell, must dump way more fuel.

Mine get fairly sooty by Friday before the weekend wash.

However, I'm in dynamic mode and manually shifting virtually all of the time. There's a lot more popping and crackling when you drive it that way, which means more fuel dumped in by the ECU to create those lovely sounds.

Speaking of all that fuel... Anyone have ANY idea of what that's going to do for the longevity of the cats?

They'll last a lot longer running rich* than running lean. *Don't know this for certain yet before we get it on the dyno.

The extra fuel blown through for the popping will keep the valves cooler. If they switched to EPAS out of concern for the fuel economy, I don't understand how blowing the fuel through for the sound is consistent with that concern.

No, my misread.
Cataclysmic (not a typo) Converter life could be shortened if the excess fuel dribbled into the system for the sound causes the cat to get too hot.

Why Did My Catalytic Converter Fail?

Hopefully, Jag didn't exceed the limit.

Magic eraser is no more an abrasive than any metal polish which all have some polishing agent in them ....

Likely true, but worth being aware of.

i use p21s polishing soap as a maintenance cleaner - it's a bit unique in being a hard waxy block that you wipe over with the supplied sponge applicator wet. can do it while the car is soaped down

and every now and then use optimum metal polish

I like the blue-burnt look. I would leave it that way.

Mine get a good sponge out with ph neutral car shampoo when I wash the car. If there is any soot that is stubborn, I wouldn't use anything more abrasive than Meguiars ScratchX.

Trials on many concours chrome bike exhausts has proven ScratchX to be the best for keeping the chrome good. I found wadding and metal/silver polishes too abrasive.
