Take off your engine cover!
#181
Point of the cover?
I took my cover off my 2012 Veloster be ause it served no purpose and the vents on the hood were fake.
However with the Jaguar F-Type 2017 I have, i noticed something. When going through a car wash, it directs the water that gets in around and down off the engine. So no direct contact on what is essentially the hottest part of the car.
Same if you get a sudden dowpoor of rain.
So if I was going to test the heat on the engine. I would drive it with no cover then stop and temp gun the top of the engine.
Then drive it with the cover and then stop, pop the hood and remove it and temp gun it again.
The cover may be causing heat to transfer to the cover and out the vents vs straight out. Butbwhat if no vents and no cover?
Perhaps the engineers who spent years in school and designing and testing figured out that vents help and a 23°F difference from the cover is negligable if a bunch of water hits it and causes warping or other damage.
So the cover on witb vents is still lower and safe than no vents or vents and no cover if a sudden downpoor or car wash trip.
Just my ponderings.
