Telematic Module

The TCU is located between the seats, accessible behind the cubby (convertible) or trim hatch (coupe). (4) in the image below.
Have you had the diagnostic codes read to suggest the TCU is faulty? If not then do so because "SOS System Limited" should store a code or codes that tell you exactly which piece of hardware the TCU thinks is not working (mic, antenna, backup battery, etc). Normally the TCU is replaced as a very last resort as it requires the old module to be deregistered with the off-board database and the new unit registered in its place.
I've attached the diagnostics steps for reference.
Telematics have only been fitted for 2-3 years so any fault should still be covered under the factory warranty.

Thank you for your reply. I bought the car as accident damaged and repaired it. I fitted a new airbag module which had to go back to Jaguar to be programmed and removal of all warning lights. They said they couldnt get the SOS warning light off and wanted the car for 3/4 hours to find the fault at £150 per hour + materials. I thought that was a bit excessive. If you press the SOS button it does get through to Jaguar with no problems so i wondered if you could shed anymore light on what the problem might be.
Yours hopefully.

Not having telematics in my 2015 I have no hands on experience with them, so I am limited to the troubleshooting information that Jaguar publish.
The TCU has a direct connection with the RCM (airbag module) which receives crash events so it is possible that if that was reprogrammed then maybe the TCU does as well as it might still think there has been an accident. Really it needs to be diagnosed with SDD/Pathfinder software to see exactly what is causing the message. A main dealer should not take 3-4 hours to do that, it should be achievable within a 30 minute diagnostics session as it only requires them to plug their laptop in and start a new session, although obviously any further steps would take time.
The only thing I can suggest is checking the connections are not disturbed.

If the GPS on your navigation is working correctly then no need to check the rear roof pod connections

Hopefully this wont become a widespread issue but my 2018 XJ is currently offroad with a telematics module problem. The car seemed to lose outside comms and trip computer history then over the following four weeks had an engine fail to start problem followed by a battery that went into quote low battery start engine unquote dash alarm every 2-3 days, the telematics unit in one way or another is causing a drain on the battery, possibly interrupting comms and is currently being replaced by a dealer who is working hard to sort it all out.

Hi
i have a 2018/19 model and it has been at Jaguar with a telematics problem for the last three weeks. The have replaced the module but it is now throwing faults everywhere. The have replaced the battery, antenna and some other modules but still can’t get it to work. The car has 5000 miles since new. It would appear that the later models have an issue, as I was informed they had seen a few like this. Thankfully it’s under warranty but I will now extend it when the standard one runs out. Luckily I have another car to use or I would have had a severe meltdown by now.

F Type owners manual says there are 2 backup batteries that will be maintained as part of the servicing schedule, as carried out by the Dealer?
Has anyone attempted to replace the SOS backup batteries themselves? Does anyone know where they are located in the car?
many thanks
