The Supra does outperform it's specs, just like the mkiv, but that's about all they have in common. You do have to give it up for the performance value though. Very close to the 718 Cayman S and Audi TTRS (two cars I would cross shop) on the track, but cheaper than both, plus an aftermarket I would kill for. And if the engine is half as reliable/stout as the 2JZ you're in good shape! Silly to say considering it's not a Toyota engine but maybe BMW can make a 900 hp capable monster as well. Let's just hope they figured out their rod bearing issues lol
the rod bearing issues is for the m cars with s55 etc, b58 is built actually by toyota and is way more reliable and responsive than a 2jz. only limiting factor is really the zf8 but you can upgrade it to 1400hp capable zf8 with like 6k usd~ sending it to pure transmissions.

No the b58 is built by the Bavarians and only tuned by Toyota. And it'll need to be on the road another decade before we can make any comparisons about reliability. Saying it's more reliable (after 3 years on the market) than a 2JZ is silly. We are talking about a bespoke engine that is the stuff of legend, capable of 4 digit HP numbers without taking the heads off. An engine on every best ever list. People are even transplanting it into the A90 Supra. Hard to compare that to an everyday engine used across BMW in many of it's SUVs and sedans. It's showing well so far but has a long way to go to be mentioned in the same sentence as the 2JZ.
