However, you might be entirely right on the better throttle response on the later cars, mine is an early build even if it's 15.
Check with the dealer to see if there is a tune update for your car.

No tune available for this yet.

I spoke extensively with the best mechanic at my dealer yesterday during lunch and he confirms it's the transmission.

He said it's a combination of the car always starting in 2nd gear and giving it load, allowing it to downshift and then get going. He has suggested I try to be a tad smoother or driving slower with my throttle or driving in S mode to try and get around it as the car takes off in first.

I'll try the latter.

sorry for resurrecting an old post but I just upgraded from a 2008 XKR to a 2015 V6-S coupe and I'm feeling the same thing while coasting around corners or just after a speedhump when you apply a bit of throttle to get moving again.

With gentle acceleration in D it feels like it's spooling up some revs for a downshift that never happens - apply a bit more throttle and you get the downshift (usually with a kick in the pants and a bit of wheelspin).

It doesn't feel like a boost problem - if the car is in sport mode and 3rd gear there's plenty of torque to pull away from the same corner at the same speed (and half the revs it tries to use in D).

I figured the car learnt some bad behaviour while being used as a demonstrator - but now I'm thinking it may have had a few too many "dynamic starts" and something really is slipping in the transmission.

I sometimes get a slight hesitation on tip-in and am sure it has nothing to do with the transmission. Mine is a manual.

I suspect fuel and timing not going quickly enough from "clean" to "naughty."

Agreed. There is a serious flat spot in the throttle mapping that is very apparent at about half to 2/3 throttle. I'll get my tuner to address that problem when it goes in for tune in a couple weeks.
