tire/wheel system notification
Hello, I had some custom wheels installed after I picked up my car on Saturday. After the wheels were installed, the installer mentioned that there was a wheel/tire alert light on the console. He mentioned that it was fairly common for this light to display after a custom wheel install and that this light usually went away on its own after 15 minutes of driving.
The console displayed a message that said "press ok to clear" and I pressed ok without thinking about it. However, I realized that by doing this I lost the wheel/tire alert. So what are my options for redisplaying the wheel/tire alert if it is still valid? Is there anything like a "run diagnostics" button that will print any outstanding problem details to the console?

thanks shift. are you saying that the sensors on the factory wheels can't be removed and placed on the custom wheels?
I've had a wheel sensor replaced on a previous car before so I think wheel sensor design tends to be somewhat modular.

You won't be able to reconstitute the warning, at least not in the message center, if the problem has self-corrected. You would only be able to find which temporary code was thrown by accessing the OBD port (takes a code-reader/laptop & software).
You said the code went away after you pressed OK. I presume you did not get another tire warning code displayed. If that is the case, the warning was likely a temporary situation as your installer said, as the TPMS is now happily synched with its sensors. I wouldn't be concerned at this point unless the warning symbol reappears.

You can buy an OBD code reader relatively cheaply. I keep one in the garage, they plug in to a port located under the dash near the steering wheel. You can read and erase alarm codes with it. It has saved me a trip to the dealer several times.

If it's a 2015 model, try this:
1. With the car off, hit the ignition button WITHOUT pressing the brake pedal. This will turn the electronics on without starting the car.
2. You may need to press the OK button on the steering wheel to dismiss a message.
3. Hit the 'menu' button on the steering wheel. Navigate down to Vehicle Info, and then select Tire Pressure.
You should see a schematic of the car with the 4 tire pressures off the wheels. Then you can use a manual tire pressure gauge to check that the TPMS is reporting the correct pressures.
