First of all, a very happy Thanksgiving to all you members.
I've taken notice of the fact that the SVR has Michelin Pilot Sport tires and the R Coupe has Pirelli p-zero tires. Now, a Porsche 911 and Ferrari have Michelin Pilot Sport tires. Based on the mentioned vehicles, I'm thinking the Michelin Tires are superior to the Pirelli tires. Why do you think Jaguar decided to mount Pirelli p-zero tires on the car instead of the Michelin Pilot Sport tires. Is there a significant difference in price for the two tires? What could be the logic behind the decesion. Your thoughts please.

The front and rear tires on the SVR are 10mm wider than the R. Even in identical sizes, the Pilot Super Sports are much more expensive than the P-Zeros($68 for a front tire and $108 for a rear tire) well worth it though given the superior handling and longevity of the PSSs (the wear rating is 36% higher).
That said, Jag's U.S. website claims they are delivering P-Zeros with the SVR, the only difference being the 10mm greater width than those on the R.
There is a black SVR coupe displaying at my dealer showroom with Pilot Super Sport tires on the car.
Might be a lightly used one that somebody turned back into the dealer. I, for one, had the dealer replace the P-Zeros with PSSs before I took delivery of a car I ordered.
I wish I had thought of that when ordering my car.
The dealer didn't provide any assistance other than to swap the wheel/tire sets for free (I also upgraded from 19" Propoellers to the 20" Black Gyrodynes otherwise only available on the V8 cars).I sold the takeoff set to Kief.
I just put new pirellis on mine. I asked the service guy why jag went with the pirellis and he couldn't say. He did say that the f types seemed to be getting 20-25k miles worth before needing to change tires. I've been hearing of the michelins being very good and looks like they might be better in terms of wear and grip. I'm going to try them next time and see how it goes. The only con i've heard is that they're louder and more expensive (shouldn't matter considering its a loud car anyway and the price isn't all that much more in the grand scheme of things.)
I also asked him about lease obligations with original parts. He said the tires don't matter as long as its the same size. So that's good to know. I guess if you never really use the car in inclement weather or never really open it up, the tires you choose won't matter much for regular stop and go driving. But I'd assume most people can't suppress that urge.
I have experience with both and Michelin is much quieter than Pirreli and not as hard a ride. I hate every set of P Zero's I've had including Rosso's, "the Ferrari" tire at the time. Rear end is starting to slide at 11k, so PSS are in my future!
I ditched the PZeros at 1500 miles and the PSS are a major step up. You'll really notice it in the braking, and the make the SVR feel so good even when I tried it with the stability control off.
Now I have until March to wear them out as the new PSS is being released.
Wow- I must be a lot more of an aggressive driver than I give myself credit for: I just hit the wear indicator on my rear P-Zeros at 9400 miles. How in the hell are any of you getting 25k miles out of those suckers? I was hoping I'd make it to 15k, but no chance now.
I will add, however, that the tail end of my car has been a lot of fun to slide around even minor corners for the last 2k miles...
I see a set of Pilot Super Sports in my immediate future - as in this week. Too bad that nobody locally has them in stock.
I would go stock PSS in the front size wise and bump to 305s in the rear. I've read that the PSS tires bulge-out/stick-out a little bit regardless and I like just a little curb protection. (also 17mm spacers)
It is too bad that used tires are almost a giveaway on CL. Getting rid of the Pzeros the old fashioned way - mischief.

The PSSs will last you longer. TireRack had them in stock a couple weeks ago. They usually deliver within 1-2 business days and are cheaper than just about any outlet.

I did the same thing this last time out. Curb protection with the 295 is about 4mm, not nearly enough. The 305 hangs over a full 10mm.
