Default Tires, tires, tires

I know this has been asked a million time, but I'm looking to replace my P Zeros within the next two weeks. We have our first long distance road trip coming up and I'd like soem fresh shoes on the F-Type. We're in western Oklahoma so the winters do get cold and I'd prefer some tires that would work all year. The majority of our driving will be above 40F. Could I have your recommendations please!

If price isn’t an issue, Michelin pilot super sport. The Michelin cup 2s are also good.

I've always run the Pilot Sports on my street bikes and liked them. Are the super sports the same as the Pilot Sport 4S? The 4S is the only one Tire Rack shows.

Both of these are summer tires. Great tires here in California, but they'll probably want to be looking at Pilot Sport A/S 3+ if winter is an important factor.

I didn't think they made the A/S 3+ for our cars.

We fitted Nitto Motivo UHP all weathers to our F.

That way we, don't need to adjust our driving style in cold weather. (Yes, I could REALLY TELL the OEM P-Zeros had no traction in the cold!!!!)

The ultimate grip might not be as high with the Motivos, but the driving satisfaction is there. Plus they have double the treadwear rating...

Ah you're right. They do seem to make Pilot Sport All Season 4s that will fit though.

To be honest I have never looked much into A/S tires since I live in SoCal and winter for us is like .5" of rain for 30min on one day in January lol.

Tire Rack informed me that Michelin will be releasing Pilot Sport AS 4's that fit 20 inch wheels in July/August.
My understanding is that PS AS 3's are now old stock only and obsolete.
Presently PS AS 4's are available for the 20 inch rears. They will be adding the 20 inch front size in July/August.
Not sure about other wheel sizes but would suggest contacting Tire Rack for help.

The new Conti DWS06 plus and the Bridgestone RE980’s are good choices if you can’t wait for the new PS AS 4S.
If it were me, I’d suffer through the road trip right down to the wear bars to get to the Michelin release .

Go with the Conti’s for all weather. RickyJay runs them for years in Maine and they have a great record of performance,

Summer tires still handle rain, but don't cope well when the temperature gets below about 40F. Probably still a rarity in Southern California. It's unusual enough here in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Super Sports are old. They were replaced by the PS4S. Cup 2s are more appropriate for combined track/road use. They are definitely a compromise for daily driving on the roads in terms of cold/wet performance as well as treadwear. If you want to track your car but not swap wheel/tire combos then Cup 2s are a good option. If it's purely a street car and you live in a warm and mostly dry climate then PS4S.

The AS3+ has been replaced by the AS4. It's a great "all season" tire but not a performance winter tire. It works really well in cold+dry and wet, and only gives up maybe 5% at the extreme to the PS4S in warm+dry. Unfortunately, last I checked the AS4 isn't available in the right sizes for us. The next best is Bridgestone RE980AS.

The Continental Extreme Contact Sport is a very good tire, often to be found at a little bit of a discount over the equivalent Michelin. Not for winter driving though.

Continental is running a promotion thru 6/30 with purchase of full set. Ordered a set of the DWS 06 Plus last week from Tirerack. Saved $140. Going to order more for the wife's daily driver.

Quite true my dear friend and NOT because they have sponsored shirts for all of our events. Tires—on all my vehicles—came first, then the shirts.

Indeed. I have been using Continental ExtremeContact DWS 06’s—the “Plus” is a new tire which one of our group recently bought and put on at Jaguar Land Rover Scarborough—year round, including in the dead of winter to great success.

I’m sure you and your wife will love them.

Full disclosure: I am not, and have never been, an “official” or paid-for spokesperson for Continental Tire. Much as I love the idea. Simply an extremely satisfied, “real world”, customer. (If I didn’t love their tires they can provide all the free shirts in the world for our events and I still wouldn’t use them. The tires, not the shirts).

Thank you all for the great info. I'll look into the Continentals, but might do like Robtrt8 said and wait on the AS4's. My P Zeros have lots of tread left on them. Again, thank you all for the input.

Make sure you check the very INSIDE of the tread. Our factory alignment was out, and the tires wore to the cords both F&R before I noticed.

Luckily, the PZeros have a lot of cords, LOL. @Unhingd will tell you how many visible cord layers show, until you need to worry.

I will defiantly check. I'm pretty sure they're all good, but will double check. Thanks for pointing that out.

I’ve gotten to the point of deflation but never failure on a set of my MINI tires. However, I did cut my fingers on the frayed steel cords when I was checking.
