Default Today I ordered a 2016 F Type R AWD

I kept in pretty good touch with my local dealership and was able to snag their first order for a new R AWD model today.

I've attached the order guide. There is one option I hadn't heard anything about which surprised me. Carbon Fiber Roof... I haven't decided on it as of yet.

Nice! Did they give you any indication of when they will start shipping them?

I've got the 2015 F type R and have been contemplating trading for the awd.... however, have more or less decided to keep the current car as with winter salt/stones/gravel, I decided to just park it for the winter.

My last XKR I drove with snows on in the winter and the gravel thrown up by the snow tires did some damage in the usual places. I'm ok with rear wheel drive in winter, yet we get a lot of snow here and so short of being 'high centered' the awd would be a bonus.

Had also thought about installing temporary (winter only) mud guards, but overall, its garaged for the winter.... and I miss it already.

With awd traction, your acceleration times will be awesome.

the cabon fiber roof sounds cool and probably looks great...BUT the pano roof is amazing. Love it on a nice sunny day. Not sure if you've been inside one, but I would feel a little too enclosed w/o one, now having experience the pano roof.

Agreed, its very odd they did away with it. But I specifically wanted an AWD, so to me it doesn't matter. I was waiting for this to order. The only change I don't like is the body colored ground effects. I might immediately have them painted black. Haven't quite decided yet.

Honestly, the only way I'd be interested in the F-Type R is with AWD. With RWD, I think the power is pretty unmanageable and unusable, but fun. I loved my Audi RS4 420 HP V8 manual, and, of course, all Audis are AWD. The Quattro system is incredible, and I hope the Jaguar AWD matches its capability.

For the V6, I prefer RWD, so on that score I think JLR market research got it right if it is, in fact, true that the RWD is not going to be offered in the U.S. market. According to sources, the UK configurator is still showing the RWD Rs as available.

I just got an R coupe.....and now that they only come in AWD, that makes me wonder on the collectibility of the 2015 R coupes....they will be the only ones with rear drive.

If you're fixating on things like "collectability," you're not going to be enjoying your car. Please don't make that mistake. Enjoy it, it's an awesome machine, but only if you actually use it--a lot.

I don't do the "collectible" thing, I like to drive the car too much. But can start to see how the RWD V8 R might be desirable in the future. In 30 years, all cars will be

1. AWD
2. all electric or
3. hybrids + small engines like weird 3 cyc + turbo
4. make no sound or sound like a vaccuum cleaner

A V8 that makes crazy noise that's RWD, old rich dudes will go crazy for!

how were you able to order this without pricing announced on the 2016's? I spoke to a couple of local dealers and they aren't even taking orders on the 2016 yet even though I want to put one in for their first allocation.

I'm not sure why you can't order one yet. My dealer was allocated their first unit on the 19th, the day of the LA Auto Show announcement. The system was down at the time, but they were able to order the next day. I just received my order confirmation with all sales codes. See below. As far as pricing goes, they were able to give me a price cap for the car, and if the vehicle exceeds that price I can refuse it.

Default beautiful car that I would consider.

It's kind of strange that the awd was estimated to be slower to 60 than the rear wheel drive. It must be the extra extra 150 or so pounds of weight. I wonder if the handling will be less sharp as well. I would go for the carbon fiber roof for sure its a no brianer Stohlen.
