I have used Dr Colorchip for years and still cannot get it to work the way it should. It does an OK job for me and better than others but still not even close to what I would call a happy user.

I've had pretty good success with these steps:
  • Clean surface with alcohol/degreaser.
  • Mix roughly equal parts of your base coat and clear coat. Just a drop of each - you don't need much for rock chips. This is much easier than doing base first, then clear on top. (If you try to fill rock chips with base coat only, it'll stand out because it's not glossy)
  • Using a toothpick, apply a drop of paint into the rock chip. there should be a little dome of paint. It'll shrink a little when the paint dries.
  • Wait a few hours.
  • You should now be able to feel little bumps where you filled the chips.
  • Use a sharp razor blade or Exacto to shave off the bumps. use light motion and don't worry about scratching the clear coat- we'll fix it later.
  • Use a small piece of 2000-2500 wet sandpaper to smooth the spot where you filled in the rock chip. I usually just press down on the paper with my finger and twist. That way, you sand as little area as possible.
  • After the sandpaper, paint should be smooth, but dull. Don't let that dull spot scare you - we'll fix it!
  • Get a bottle each of Meguiar's 105 and 205.
  • Use a dab of the 105 (ultracut) on a soft cloth and rub the dull spot. It should come out smooth and shiny.
  • If it still looks hazy after the 105, follow up with the 205 (finishing polish)
After all this, you'll still be able to see the repair, but you'll really REALLY have to look for it.
BTW - a lot of the how-to's un YouTube give crappy advice. I've seen some repairs that looked worse then the damage they were trying to fix!
I recently did some touch-up on the front clip of my BRG F-type - I was wearing a headlight & readers, and holding a magnifying glass to fill rock chips the size of a grain of sand. I'm kinda **** about my cars...
