Wouldn't it be possible to cut out the bung, and locate it higher in the cross member so as to get above the curve in the surround like the P7? Or in the alternative, would the P7 cross member fit?

Your solution seems to be the best route, effective and not obtrusive.
Hopefully Murphy sticks to his law, although nobody else seems to follow laws much anymore 😳

Yeah Mine's exactly like that too. I have a 2014 V8S. Looks like the Project 7 has a different cross bar behind it. I wonder if it's possible or how expensive it would be to change that out?
STMPY When you get your new steering wheel in, if you don't mine I would like to take a look at it, since we're almost neighbors (I'm in Danville).

Yes there is a different part number for the P7 Bumper Beam, T2R18829, if you feel like spending $800 on it.

Item #1 in the drawing

And that's if it fits. If I ever do the P7 grill, I'd probably try and cut out and move the tow hook bung up a little.

If cross bar is truly a bolt on, then for me the extra $$$ might be worth it.
Any way to verify that it could be swapped?

I would think cutting and welding might decrease the structural integrity and also be a bit of a crap shoot as to getting the new position exactly correct.
However if one of us was to purchase the actual P7 member then the exact location could be shared with the community.
I will look into ordering the P7 cross member but I need confirmation that it is a direct bolt on.

Definitely unless done correctly. We add receiver bungs for add on armor directly to our mine resistant Buffalo vehicles hull without sacrificing integrity, but of course they follow specific temperatures and cool down cycles.

Well, as all things P7 I will need an actual P7 vin to order the part. My dealer parts guy thinks it’s a bolt on but is not sure. I looked at my car but can only see the lower bolts. Could someone who has done the conversion verify that the member is bolted and there are no welds ?
Unhingd, WayneB ?

Thanks

If I had known that the P7 cross bar was different and could be ordered, I probably would have done that. At the time I swapped the grill, It did not appear to me that the cross beam was plug and play, but I didn’t look that closely.

I can't positively answer that either. I didn't look at the cross beam that closely other than painting it satin black. If I had know it was different I would have changed mine too.

Is the tow hook #3 the same part number in the Project 7 as in all the other F Types? You would think it would be. But then you would think the cross bumper beam would be the same too. We're talking JLR here.

Thanks,
Wayne B.

There are three different front tow hooks, but nothing specific for Project 7, it's just overall VIN ranges of the car.

C2P1708 for up to VIN K22531 (this is the one from the XK/XKR, and the X250 XF)
T2H8295 for VIN K22532 to K50557
T2H33643 for VIN K50558-onward

The engineering part numbers suggest to me that the T2H8295 & T2H33643 are identical.

Cambo, care to hazard a gues as to whether the P7 cross member is a bolt on ?
Not holding you responsible if you guess wrong, 95% convinced to just roll the dice and order regardless..

Thanks

I have spent a lot of time looking. There are only aluminum novelty hooks available. Nothing that you could actually tow with. The reverse thread makes it difficult to even custom machine something.

Lance, I just stumbled across this listing on Fleabay Motors: https://www.ebay.com/itm/1PC-Car-Aut...cAAOSwr-Bb6PKF
Looks correct to me and it even lists as compatible with 2014 and 2015 F-Type.
Maybe it'll fit/work, maybe it won't, maybe it's one you have already tried, maybe it really is a new thing.

Then I need to attach a proper racing tow hook somehow as tow hooks both front and rear are required by the regulations in the Time Attack series I'll be running. I'm sure I can figure out a good location once I get my hands on the vehicle.
Did you manage to work out how to attach a tow hook or strap to the rear?

FWIW, I did get two hooks with my MY21 - one long and one short, and BOTH black. They just happened to be included in a bunch of several 'goodies' that the dealer gave me with the sale. There was no explanation as to what they were (or why they're reverse threaded), and no apparently place where they could be conveniently stored inside the car. My take is that distributing the hook(s) is dependent on the dealer/sales rep. After all, caveat emptor, right?

I CAN attest that the front tow hook is absolutely critical to getting the car up on a flat bed tow truck. However, I did notice that despite cranking down hard when installing the hook, it became loose after a single load/unload trip up and down the flat bed. As such, I'd probably not recommend leaving it in place any longer than is necessary.

And from other threads here, I understand that the back hook should ONLY be used as a tie-down, and not for towing. Thanks, group!!!

Still, I'm curious as to whether the aftermarket tow hook for the XF works on the F-Type... including installation and removal. I look forward to finding out...
