Default TPMS fault on new wheels.

I just bought a set of wheels and tires from a member of this forum and they were just as good as he described. Class act. The tires all had what I believe to be aftermarket TPMS sensors and after I mounted the new wheels I am getting a TPMS alarm. The previous owner stated they worked perfectly on his F-Type (installed by a tire retailer) and I have no reason to doubt him so I assume there is some sort of reset or calibration that needs to take place. I search this forum and found a few threads but no definitive answers so I thought I'd ask again in the event I missed it. Is there such a procedure for a 2016 F-Type R Coupe?

Jag changed TPMS frequency at some point - what year is the seller’s car vs. yours?

On an unrelated note, I’m getting a ‘TPMS system failure’, which I’m guessing means the 9.5 year-old TPMS batteries are dying.

My first thought too. I think the change was from 2015 to 2016. I'll be putting my aftermarket wheels on today with brand new JLR TPMS sensors and am hoping that they wake up and connect with no other effort, but don't know if they need to be activated from a "shipping" sleep state. The tire shop had a handheld device but it didn't seem compatible so I won't know until the rubber literally meets the road.

Ugh. I think they're from a 2014 F-Type. Is there a way to determine the frequency?

There are handheld tools that will scan the sensors. Here's a post on that:

Otherwise, you can remove one and read what the labeling says

In recent reading on this subject I saw references to laws in some markets not allowing TPMS sensors older than 5 years to be refitted. My stock ones are over seven years old and still working, but I suspect that at 9.5 years, yours don't really owe you anything.

I got my new ones from TireRack for $30 each plus shipping and trusted that their listing was correct (433MHz).

On an even more unrelated note, I started seeing an intermittent "SOS System Limited Functionality" message just in the last week.

I used VDO/Continental TPMS sensors - 315 mHz p/n SE52029 from RockAuto @ $45 ea. Supposedly these are OEM. They didn't require any activation or programming.

There's your problem. 2014 was 315MHz, 2016 is 433MHz.

Put a battery charger on overnight and see if the SOS goes away. Mine comes on anytime the battery is low, and the battery is 5 years old, so it comes on a lot. Charger usually says the battery is around 70% when it happens. It goes away for a few days but eventually comes back. I'm assuming a new battery is in order.
