Track day at Laguna Seca, suggestions?
Gonna take the S-AWD to Laguna Seca in May, providing we don’t get cancelled. I’ve driven the track many times before in my old Corvette, a 09 C6 manual and think it’s the coolest thing I’ve ever done. But now it’s time to take the F Type and see what she can do.
Other than torquing the wheels to 100 ft lbs, and of course balancing air pressures in the tire, (what’s a good cold setting, Pirelli PZeroes?). What else should I do to make sure the car is prepped?
I absolutely love this car, way more than my Vette. It has less hp (380 vs 425), but the AWD is freaking amazing! I think I can drive circles around a Vette... yea, we’ll see.
Thoughts, suggestions, ideas, comments are all welcome. I’ll post pics if and when I get to run at Laguna....

Don't forget to turn OFF the auto locking doors so that corner workers can pull you out if the worst happens.
Also, you will need to turn ON TracDSC (at least) every session. (I forgot a couple times until the second lap, oops.)
Buy or borrow a cheap laser pyrometer, measure tread temps across the tire to aid in tweaking pressure for the track.
ISTR that the car will want 41 PSI at high speeds?

I didn't like the Pirelli's when they reached or went above 40 PSI hot. They overheated fast and would just understeer every corner. Depending on the ambient temperature, I usually lowered them down to around 26-28 PSI cold which usually kept them around the 35-38 PSI hot. While that does decrease sidewall strength a bit, it held more mid corner speed for me on the track I was driving (which was not Laguna). A lot of it depends on the ambient temp and the track itself. I would just start out with your normal tire pressure, see how it feels and adjust from there (i.e. keep it simple).

Here’s an older Jag document on tracking the F-type...
