Default Transmission Concerns

I have some concerns with the 8 speed trans in the F-Type hopefully some owners can answer. This is regarding a V8 Coupe but I believe they are all the same.

Question is, is there any mode where you can keep the transmission from shifting into the next gear automatically. Meaning if i wanna bounce the car off the redline, i could theoretically do it. IMO there is no point in having paddle shifters if the car is gonna do the shift for you at WOT. Honestly this could be a deal breaker for me buying the car. Its bad enough they don't offer a manual and i dont think I could justify buying one if i cant be in control of the transmission.

If you switch the transmission to S and manually shift, I don't believe it will up shift at redline.

It's actually a great transmission. The 8 speed ZF is recognized as one of the best in its class.

Page 75 of my manual indicates that in the S position and Dynamic mode, the trans. will not shift up even when the rev limiter is reached.

Can anyone confirm? I realize the trans is a great transmission, its had alot of positive criticism. But to me its still an automatic transmission. If I can't be in full control of the transmission shifts, up and downshifts, i dont think it will be happy.

I'm assuming the same for downshifts. So in sport mode an cruising on the highway and I mash the throttle it will not downshift?

Thanks

Yes, I hear your concern and you want what you want can't change that. However its not a true manual shift obviously. However, there are other cars that can offer you that experience. However, if you put the F type next to them, the manual/auto shift is quick particularly if you hit the gas aggressively, it will still out shift many in it s class and as far as down shifting you have complete control to red line.

Feel free to read the manual, starting on p. 73
http://www.mediafire.com/view/napd9e...422/US_102.pdf

In particular, check out 'Manual Gear Selection' on p.74 and continued on p. 75.
