The 2016 has one battery in the trunk/boot. Most of us have wired the battery maintainer receptacle to the battery bus and ground, next to the battery and fed the cord up into the accessible portion of the boot.
A few have used the charging connections under the hood/bonnet, but I would expect a lot of voltage drop with a little maintainer.

The installation in the instructions looks more complicated than need be. My service guy said to just clip the battery manager leads onto the connections under the hood. I did that when I put the car into storage for the summer and it worked like a charm. Started instantly. I also pump up the tires and put stabilizer in the tank. The drill has worked for 10 years. One point. I think a battery manager with software is much preferable to a "trickle charger" of old.
