It's kind of an old article but I'm wondering if the turbo I4 is an homologation special to get into either GT3 or GT4. The article indicates GT3. My guess is that neither the V6 or V8 configurations would fit the GT3 or GT4 rules as well as the turbo I4.

Everything You Wanted To Know About The Four-Cylinder Jaguar F-Type
"It both drops the price of the F-Pace to levels more easily afforded by entry-level sports car customers..."
I still don't understand why everyone mentions this measly $1,500 lower price as such a huge incentive for customers that can't afford the V6. It's not like it's $5-10,000 less.

I know you all love the 4-pot really, so here's some more info as to how they did it:

It's tempting to say they shouldn't do the four, it lowers the price and increases the volumes and our cars lose som exclusivity, but then I have a V6S, it is more expensive then the non S, but it is smaller capacity and cheaper than the V8 and I bought it at least partly because I couldn't afford the V8 so that would make me a hypocrite. Even for the V8 guys if you didn't buy an R or an SVR, you are in the mass market in comparison.
Even the 4 cylinder guys are going to say I wish the Miata/MX5 didn't look so similar from a distance
Perspective depends on where you are standing

I haven't seen any numbers on displacement yet, but let's assume around 2.2 L. With a bit of tuning, spinning at somewhere around 13000 rpm and turbo boost to 30 psi, we're at over 1100hp. No, really, that's been doable for a few decades. Drivability in city traffic is questionable, but...at least your manhood wouldn't be called into question. lol
I gotta get some sleep.

A Turbo-Four Porsche Can't Beat a Supercharged V6 Jaguar
Enough said as to why I bought a Jaguar f type over a Porsche.

I see that UK Top Gear were testing the new Cayman which has also transitioned from a V6 to a 4 cylinder turbo. More HP and more torques but Chris Harris made similar comments about the lack of sporty noises....
So it's not just a Jaguar thing. And they also alluded to "emissions" being the cause for the change. It was quite funny watching him drive once round the track in an emissions optimized manner...
