Default Type R vs SVR

Hello,

I'm 32 and buying my first real sports car. I car initially looking at a few 2017 SVRs for around 78k. Now I'm seeing that I can get a newer Type R for cheaper. Is the SVR worth the extra $$? What would I be compromising? Other than stats on paper?

They only made 1800 or so SVR's worldwide, so they are always going to be rare, the active rear spoiler , the inconel exhaust noise , the top speed and the SVR interior.
The new car looks very Aston Martin , is a bit quieter , has particulate filters in the exhaust and are the end of the line. You get warranty , the SVRs mainly have run out.
You pays your money and makes the choice you want ! You cant go wrong .......

Is AWD setup differently between 2017+ SVR and R? I heard in the past SVR AWD was tuned differently but not sure if regular R models got that setting after 2017 facelift.

Do you think it's worth the extra 15k?

Knowing Jaguar they would use all existing parts first ( just look at the infotainment system lol )

15k for 25 hp is not worth it to me. Not to mention, the newer R prob has more warranty remaining.

The later model R’s have almost the same setups as the SVRs in terms of 5he engines and supports suspension etc. the SVRs have the Carbon Ceramic breaks as opposed to the steels of the R but unless you plan to track it often the CCs aren’t worth the extra cost. The HP difference is entirely in the computer. The rest is styling differences which are entirely subjective

Nup, CCM brakes were still an option on the SVR and plenty out there with steel brakes.

Difficult to choose, probably I would get a SVR with the most equipment and less mileage possible. Not sure on the US but probably the wisest for less depreciation. CCB's is an expensive extra but if in good condition they will last (you can get them also on a R)... Many would say isn't necessary out of the track but is a heavy car, performance is really noticeable, completes the look and make it a bit more exclusive.

As said above, some extra details, the interior is nicer and the exhaust is and sounds better. The +25hp is the least relevant detail on the choice between the two. Then later on trade for one already with the newer restyle... or not and keep it

Its not the extra 25 horsepower you are paying for really. The car is upgraded in every way that Jaguar could do it. The fenders are wider for wider tires, active carbon fiber spoiler, titanium exhaust, better interior with diamond stitched seats, different diffuser, different suspension tuning which is selective, etc. It WAS Jaguar's supercar if there ever was one. The SVR was a limited production car and thus has much higher potential for investment/appreciation. Yes you can tune up a R to the same power or more, just like you can tune up a SVR for more power. I think a good comparison would be a standard C7 Corvette versus a Z06 Corvette. There is not quite as much speed difference between the R and SVR as the Stingray and Z06, but everything else is comparable. The Z06 will always bring more money than a standard C7, the SVR will always bring more money than an R model. The SVR is a pretty exclusive car.
