UK Owners - Main Dealer vs. Independent Service
What's the groups views on Main Dealer vs. Independent Servicing? I have a 63 reg (2013) base model F-Type which only does a couple of thousand miles a year. My local Jag dealer is looking to charge over £600 for the next service. A local independent quoted closer to £200 for the same list of checks and consumables.
How much of an impact does main dealer vs independent have on future sales prices? Is the saving of up to £400 a year going to easily outweigh that sales hit over a period of a few years?
Cheers,
Paul.

How can they charge you over £600 ?
Dealer pricing is now fixed!
https://www.jaguar.co.uk/owners/serv...servicing.html
They all need to obey the above, mine is booked in for a major service (SVR) and they are charging me £445 less the cost of the air filters (not required) and will then give me a discount as well for been a regular customer, end price shall be around £350 for a major service.

As Gibbo has shared, after a car hits 3 years and goes out of warranty the dealer servicing is fixed price in the UK. There are a few variations to their published prices for unusual expenses (e.g. different brake fluid for the CCB brakes, gearbox servicing, etc) but otherwise what you see on that list is the starting point that you should be paying before any discounts.
Note when it comes to wipers... £45.... lol. Go to Halfords with a trades business card (hint... Vistaprint) and they charge £3 per blade.

Which service are you due? I'm guessing from the 63 plate it is due it's five year service (and you say you haven't done a lot of miles in it) which is about when the spark plugs are due to be changed. Normally for the 72 month service it should be:
1. Carry out vehicle inspection checks as documented in the WSM instructions. Where available also perform an eVHC.
2. Replace interior air filter.
3. Renew engine oil and filter.
4. Renew brake fluid.
5. Renew transfer box oil.
6. Carry out road test as documented in the WSM instructions.
7. If fault lamp(s) are illuminated, interrogate that system using the JLR approved diagnostic equipment and report findings.
8. Check for any applicable outstanding service actions or recalls.
9.Report any unusual features of vehicle condition and additional work required.
10. Reset service indicator.
11. Endorse service record.
The items in bold are non-standard and charged as extras. Spark plugs are not mentioned on the service sheet, but on pre-2015 cars as mentioned I think it is every 5 years which would explain why those services are at least £200 more than expected.

From your opening post I think you are suggesting that you might be selling the car in a few years and want to know if having an independent service instead of FJSH will affect the sale price?
From my POV, as a buyer, I couldn't care less where it was serviced as long as it was done when required. More concerning to me would be it having advisories for bald tires and wiper blades at each MOT because that suggests an owner who doesn't bother to look after maintenance in between the annual services.
It is worth noting that you don't normally get a service book stamp nowadays as in the UK the service records are now electronic. You can record the annual service for your car with Jaguar yourself, you don't even need the dealer or garage to do it, so a FJSH is just a web form away (and hence worthless since 2014).
I currently have 4 jags - the F-Type and XJL are serviced at my local dealer, the two X350 XJs are serviced at a local garage. For me the benefit of having a main dealer service is that they will normally follow the service sheet exactly which covers a lot of ancillary bits and pieces (like greasing the sunroof runners on the XJL) which are not done at most independents, and being current models they are familiar with the common issues so it costs less in diagnosis. The cost-reward cut-off for me is when the labour costs creep up around 10 years-ish when rubber hoses reach EOL. I'm not paying £150 an hour for work that I know my local mechanic can do just as well for half that. Free coffee and WiFi is nice, but not that important!
If your independent garage will do the same work, go for it. Keep the invoice with your records and in the unlikely event it is ever queried you can show it. I would check they will do everything though as things like the transfer box oil change are not shown in the normal A/B lists so you might have been quoted just for an oil + filters change.

With my previous XK8, 2004 XKR and 2010 XKR (bought at three years old) I use a very good independent in Southampton. He seems very up with all things Jaguar, in spite of not being a Jag "specialist" - any question I ask he can immediately answer, and often gives me additional info I didn't know. And he does what's necessary, doesn't just stick to the schedule. For the F-type. being in warranty, I'm not sure as I don't know if he has dealer-level access to Topix.
My favourite quotes from him: "it takes 10 years to build a reputation and 10 minutes to lose one" and "if I could charge dealer labour rates, I'd only work one day a week!"

Although it is the 2014 MY schedule nothing changed for later years other than maybe the V6 S spark plug change interval going from 3 years to 6 years in line with the other models.
