Default Unhappy F-Type YT guy - your comments?

This was posted to YT three years ago, and maybe it's already made the rounds here, but it got me pretty wound up. I typed up a long-winded comment, thought about it, and deleted it as being too harsh. The video struck me as a young person being confronted with having to take responsibility for some pretty poor decisions, but felt that by posting about it, he could show that none of it was his fault.

Nope.

Typical case of 'performance upgrade' and losing warranty over that. All car manufacturers do that and deny warranty after even simple modification such as lowing the car of exhaust mods.

Why on earth would someone spend so much money on a leased vehicle? But yeah, from listening to him it definitely sounds like his headaches were very likely self-caused. His technical knowledge seems minimal.

First time I see this. Weird review really. The guy just seems very ignorant. Kind of seems like a car guy but uninformed like a non-car guy. Like how can you expect any car maker to honor a warranty after a tune and how can you not be familiar with ZF and their transmissions? No wonder he had that trouble.

And he loves driving the car, still. There are stories about getting a tune and then something breaks. Most car companies will not warranty a car after you do a tune on the car as you are changing the original specs which have been trialed and tested. And you get a tune because you want to drive the car hard.

Sounds like he just didn’t do any research prior to purchasing anything. Nobody’s fault but his own.

And Jaguar puts "the cheap version" of the ZF transmission in the F-Type while BMW puts a better version in their cars???? And because he likes carbon fibre, he feels that Jaguar should have made that standard equipment?

I am familiar with this vehicle and this situation. I am the 'salesperson' who provides information to customers about our products. I can tell you for a fact that we always tell people - modifying cars under warranty does involve some risk and you have to be comfortable with that. I'm sure that we confirmed that all of the items, including the software could be removed and reverted back to original, but I also guarantee you that there's no way we stated that 'there would be no issues with it', because we simply aren't in the business of guaranteeing things that are out of our control.

I think the owner was disappointed that they had problems, and lost warranty but I do feel we are being misrepresented somewhat.

I have seen this one before...A while back. My opinion...He is soooo dumb, it is hard to watch. I remember looking at how he cares for his home/yard, and thinking...Now I know why he has issues with his car

I would also add, having heard the latter part as well - I do not feel it is fair to portray us as being unresponsive or 'stopped returning calls'. This customer wanted us to pay for his repairs, and when he didn't like the answer he just kept going at us looking for a different answer. Yes, I get it, it's a crummy situation. I just asked the question - JLR has told you that they do not believe the tune caused your transmission to fail, we do not believe it caused your transmission to fail (based on the 1000's of vehicles we've tuned since 2013 when the drivetrain came out) so honest question - what do you feel that VAP did wrong that caused your transmission to fail? I believe we were responsive the entire time but it just wasn't the answer this gentleman was hoping for.

Stuart, just to be clear, me posting this guy's video was in no way pointed at you - just the opposite. In my opinion, it showed how the owner felt like everything was someone else's fault, even though he was the one making all the decisions. It's like he hadn't ever had to take responsibility for anything before.

My favorite is him complaining that the Jag has high tire wear... OMG. Um, no, it's his heavy right foot and the fact that he bought a heavy car. It's like he made the video to show how he's the victim, but all it did was show that he wasn't accepting responsibility. Him complaining about the high cost of the carbon bits is another... geez, dude, then don't buy them. Like I said, I had to delete my YT comment because I was getting too wound up and it had sort of turned into a rant.

I just finished watching the whole thing. It took a couple of sittings because it's pretty annoying. Some of his complaints were about things that would be obvious to anyone who considered "research" to be reading a sales brochure. As for heavily modifying a leased vehicle? Sure, go ahead, but don't whine about it if you get problems. If he'd had a good relationship with a good dealer things would have come out differently. The dealer declined warranty coverage and JLR sided with them. I'm speculating, but it he took the attitude we see in the video with him to the dealer, it's no surprise they were not more understanding.

I'll make it a point to never watch another of his videos because I don't want to contribute *any* advertising money to him.

He’s simply a brat who wants something for nothing and is a cry baby. Pathetic….

Jag and the F type probably won’t lose a sale from his video but I do feel bad for Stuart and the team at VAP. I’ve had nothing but a positive experience with these guys and they have always gotten back to me within 24-48 hours based upon the complexity of the question/request.

Wouldn't put much stock in most Youtube reviews. Just anyone can sign up and post. No experience or credentials needed.

It's okay, I didn't take it that way, just felt compelled to comment.
