Uploading C.D.'s

It's my understanding that the following procedure allows us to upload C.D.'s ..
..Put C.D. in the slot, then go to the audio screen and hit 'my music' and then 'stored C.D.' and press 'upload'. It will ask if you want to upload the C.D. in the next available slot number and you answer yes and it begins to upload over 10-15 minutes..
Assuming this is correct (I have not uploaded any yet) does anyone know if we can select certain tracks rather than have the entire C.D. Upload ?
This is for a 2015 F type R and 770 W.
thks.
Lawrence.

I haven't even bothered with a CD. There are a few threads around here with people having various difficulties. I simply plug a 64 Gig USB stick in and listen to seemingly endless amounts of songs. I still need to figure out playlists though... They don't work directly from a USB stick.

When I'm in the car I mainly listen to satellite radio, but I still play music from my iPhone when I'm interested in listening to something specific from my collection.

It must be the low interest that led to the general demise of CD's.
To the original question, however, upload is all/none; you cannot select tracks. As an alternate approach, you can burn composite discs and upload the CD-Rs. You get a bit more loaded that way, since you can fill the disc to capacity. Note: It will not upload MP3's which would yield rather a lot of material - not sure why, since space is space. I have created some "best of" discs and went through the process of loading up the hardfile. It's rather a pain, mainly because the load process is slow and the car has to be on for the CD's to load. (Accessory mode won't stay on long enough to load an entire CD.) As I recall, it was about 15 minutes per disc. Times 10. If you're so inclined, the player will recognize DTS discs, but not DVD-A.
As others have mentioned, a USB stick has definite advantages. It's quick to create, plug, and go. The only way I've figured to create playlists is to put music in folders. So, there's a Pink Floyd directory, Hendrix, etc. I keep a master copy of all the tracks in the root directory, so there's obviously some wasted space. But, it works.
You also can use a Bluetooth phone as a music source.

I don't understand it, personally... the passenger could always want to watch a movie or video while travelling.
I have yet to try it, but I understand you can also play videos (not sure which file format) off a USB stick.

It can be done. One company that sells aftermarket front and rear cameras has disabled the safety feature.

FWIW, I can confirm that videos can play from the USB input - depending on the file type and/or codec used to encode the file.
The AVI and DIVX videos I tried all played; however, one of the avi files had no audio in the car until I re-encoded it with DivX,Xvid and MP3 Audio.
The following file formats did NOT work: mpg, mp4, m4v, mov, mkv, flv, m4v, rm, swf, amv, 3gp, dpg, wmv
Also, as with playing a DVD, the video screen is blanked out when you reach 4-5 mph.
