V6 F-Type Performance Upgrades?
#21
Not to sound like a cheap *******, but the local dealership stated the price of the F-type V8s at 57,000$. I felt like that's kind of high for a car with 27,000 miles, 2014, V8s, Orange. Any thoughts? Full specs as listed:
- Jaguar F-Type V8s
- Exterior Color: Orange
- Interior Color: Black
Packages
- Black Pack 3
- 20" Cyclone Wheel
- Climate Pack
- Extended Leather Pack
- Vision Pack 3
- Performance Pack V8 S
- Premium Pack 3
- DPCK (Idek wtf that is)
- Meridian Premium Audi
- HD Radio & SIRIUS Satellite Radio

I'd come out of the V8 XKR, bought the V6S, later drove the F Type R AWD on the track. I can honestly (and thankfully) say that I prefer the V6 to drive. It feels a lot lighter at the front end. That isnt everyone's cuppa, though the instructor also thought that the V6S was the most balanced on the track and the best to drive.
To tell you the truth, the car I thought was the best to drive on the track out of the performance Jags was also the slowest - the XE S, but I think that is essentially like saying that a 5 year old would prefer to read Dr Seuss' "The cat in the hat" than Salman Rushdie's "the Satanic Verses".

Maybe its the fact I'm more of a speed demon and like the intense Rush more than the enjoyment. However if I could opt for a manual V8, it'd be in a heartbeat. Just cant imagine the manual V6 with the limited power it offers. Although the manual is more involving, intriguing, and interesting, I just much rather have the raw power the V8 jags offer.

Coming from a tuned up 5.0L V8 XFR I admit I was a little disappointed in how much stirring the go pedal was needed in the V6S. However a number of reviews said the V6 may have been lacking in raw power but was generally felt to be more nimble. Even Clarkson on Top Gear said he didn't at any time feel it needed the V8, but that might be partly gas prices in UK talking.
I agree with Unhingd, the VAP Tune on my V6 has turned it into a whole other Hyde. I'm no longer pining for the V8 at a $20K difference...

Yep, I finally got the VAP tune installed a few days ago and now my V6S goes like the clappers! Much more responsive with less "lag" than before.
Can't wait to get the larger crank pulley next, although it may be a few months away yet.
All that said, it still doesn't quite match my tuned XFR once the speed gets over about 70 mph, where the XFR just pulls and pulls like a 14 YO. IMHO the AJ133 S/C motor is a classic, pity it's not much longer for this world.

We have some delightfully twisty roads here where 70 mph is a rarity; even some where it's just an impossibility. There are others where a bit better 70-120 acceleration would add to the thrill, but I try to restrain myself to double-digit speeds.
There are times I wish I had the V8, but more often I am glad I don't have the extra weight in the nose and enjoy shifting for myself.

I am getting 450hp @ 6200rm and 438 lb-ft of torque @ 3900rpm from the V6. That's within just fractions of equaling the power to weight ratio of a V8S. The performance is in a whole different league than the OEM V6S. I'll hook up the data logger tomorrow and see if I can get a valid 0-60 time. The only reason to wring this much out of the V6 is if you are an old-school gear grinder. If I enjoyed driving the AT, I would have definitely opted for the V8 instead.

0-150 times are only relevant in Maine.

Hi, I've yet to purchase an F-Type due to indecisive manners. But im a fan of low end torque. I want to purchase the V8 F-Type but I don't know if I can tip in the 60,000-80,000 I see them for in the '14-'17 ones. (Basically all of them). I'm considering the V6 S but has anyone done any reasonable performance upgrades on their V6 F-Type to produce high lowend torque or maybe something that pushes the 0-60 into the high 3s or low 4s ? (3.8 - 4.2)?i just basically would appreciate a vehicle that would send me flying back into my seats like the V8 would. I'll never track the vehicle so just accelerating it on the highway or from stoplight to stoplight sounds content enough for me. The idea of a F-Type in the 5s or high 4s as indicated by Jaguar just sounds unreasonable for me due to the price of the vehicle...
p.s this vehicle will be kept throughout my life if that matters.

Personally My AWD v6s is underpowered, I came from an Infiniti q50 Redsport, with 400 horsepower and the lack of power is one thing that bothers with me with the F-type, their is not many curves in Florida mainly highways and I use all of the 380, and get left behind easily, granted I do drive quickly.

I have commented before on this but my F-Type now feels quicker to me than my tuned XFR ever did (same 550 PS tune as the F-Type R) throughout the speed and rev range. Just bum dyno, no actual measurements mind you, I put it down to the lower weight of the F-Type and the better gearbox (ZF 8 speed vs ZF 6 speed).

Simple solution, get the larger crank pulley and tune from VAP like Lance and I have done (although I have the Eurotoys pulley and Lance has the same, but exact same result), takes it to 450 bhp.

I don't want to void my warranty, Its come in handy, payed out over 15,000 in my 7 months of ownership. If it wasn't for that, I would have decat pipes, exhaust, pulley, tune and ported my blower.
