Anyone know of a reputable place in NorCal (North California) to get my F-Type tuned? I would like to try to replicate Unhingd success.

Hi Jameel,

We did the tuning on Unhingd's car. We can deliver the same setup for you both in terms of software and hardware.

Our tuning can be delivered with a hand held programmer which you can keep and which pairs to the car so you don't need a local tuner. In fact, chances are (based on the work we had to put in) they may not even be able to get the car running correctly.

Hello,

I have a few different options on tuning your F-Type (handheld, laptop, etc). I also have the pulleys in stock.

Jameel,
Eurotoys and Velocity AP are both reputable and customer service oriented teams of professionals. I have had the opportunity to work with both over the past few months and am quite impressed with their responsiveness. I am certain you will be quite satisfied with the results regardless of which you work with most closely. I do believe it is still important that you find someone in your area with a load bearing dyno like the Mustang or Dynapack (rather than an inertial dyno like the Dynojet) to assess the resulting tune for safety parameters and to allow your choice of tuner above to dial-in the optimal safe tune. I not only agree with Stuart's suggestion that you do not need a local tuner, but would go further to suggest that might be somewhat risky. I was fortunate enough to have a local tuner who normally specializes in BMW, Porsche and Ferrari products that had the integrity to acknowledge that he had not had the Jaguar development experience necessary to safely take advantage of the radical increase in boost. My 2 cents.

+1

A bad tune can have very costly or fatal consequences, so you want to work with someone who:

1. Has seen a lot of different F-Types and has taken a lot of time to understand the maps, engine limits, and quirks. A local tuner is unlikely to have done that and you don't want to be a test subject for them.

2. Has a strong reputation and ideally has "skin in the game" with the Jaguar owners community. VelocityAP and Eurotoys are both very visible with the community here so they understand they are accountable not only to you as an owner but to the entire community.

Local tuners are simply not likely to have seen enough F-type volume to gain the requisite experience.

@Unhing....

When you did your dyno run, where on the chassis did you strap down the car?

Asking in this thread rather than PM because others may want to know too.

thanks!

With a Dynapack, the chassis doesn't get strapped down. Wheels come off, and the hubs are bolted directly to the load pods.

In my opinion that is the best and most accurate way to messure true wbhp. No problems with wheel slip and a direct mechanical connection to the dynometer.

A good article abouth it can be found here (can't link directly to the article so you need to chose the link "School of performance" in the left column, and then "Why Powertrain Performance Measurements?" in the second column):

Ah got it. Unfortunately there is no decent Dynajet dyno shop here in the Bay Area so I don't really have that option :-(

Dynojets are not the same as Dynapacks and are intertial rather than load bearing dynos. A load bearing dyno is really needed for the purpose of dialing in a tune, so you need to look for either a Dynapack or a Mustang dyno. There are other makes out there, but not widely in use. The Mustang will likely be a rolling road (rollers), but quite serviceable for the purpose.

Dynojet makes both inertial and eddy current, don't they? That was my understanding, and it was a matter of making sure the tuning center had the appropriate one for your needs.

You are right. Their high end machine ~$80-90k is an eddy current load bearing machine, but they are even more rare than the Dynapacks. Most speed shops get the low end inertial machines (~$20-30k)

Dyno results of my car with the Eurotoys upper and lower pulleys, VAP sports cats and VAP tune.

Unfortunately, the car dynoed a bit lower than we were expecting (reached 400 hp using the stock pulleys with a stage 1 tune although that was dynoed in around 28C ambient temperature). This could be attributed to the fact that I live in the UAE (ambient temperatures on the day were 45C!) and perhaps inadequate wind simulation in the dyno shop.

Butt dyno definitely feels the power but it feels like the car is pulling timing after a couple of 5k+ RPM runs. Thought it was because of the stock cats before but the problem continues with the sports cats so I'm guessing it's heat related. I found this page earlier doing some research (https://www.paramount-performance.com/Jaguar-F-Type-Charge-Cooler-v6-Intercooler-F-Type-Jaguar-V6-Tuning.html), which shows that Paramount have an upgraded Intercooler as part of their 480hp package for the V6, although there are no specifics about the Intercooler itself.

Anyone have any ideas how to improve the cooling of the car (barring methanol injection, which I am also considering)? Especially considering I'm living in the middle of the desert?

PS I've already removed the engine cover
