When I bought my R, the dealer had 2 similar models, 2015 S V6 and 2016 R AWD; both white but slightly different white. The MY16/R had warranty still, the MY15/S did not.
Salesman: “What are looking for in a F Type?”
Me: “One that will push me back in the seat.”
Salesman: “You want that one.”

When I get a newer model one of these days, I’ll try out the 400 model if I can’t afford another R at that time.

I recently went through the same process and drove both in order to decide (2015 V8S was RWD). There was just something about the V8 that made the car feel different in a very good way. I would probably get the AWD if I was doing it again, but don't regret the V8 for a moment. I think you'll be happy with either so drive both and take your pick. Enjoy.

Coming from a V6S, I now have a V8 R and I can honestly say that I have more fun with the V8, it's definitely more thrilling to drive knowing you have 550 HP right there whenever you need. Don't get me wrong, the V6 has plenty of power but I think the R completes it for me with the sound and the quad pipes.

You may have 550 bhp if Jaguar has been excessively conservative in its figures, but the official spec. is 550 PS, so "only" 543 bhp under your right foot.

Jag's website says 550 HP, for the US anyway.

That's US HP, not real HP.
As scm correctly pointed out it's 550 PS = 543 HP, it's just that you Yanks (including the JLR USA website) have a habit of bigging things up so 550 PS suddenly becomes 550 HP.
Dunno why JLR insist on using the relatively obscure PS (German) though, it would be better IMHO if they used the much more common and sensible international metric power measure of kilowatts. But I suppose that doesn't sound so good, 550 PS = 404 kW.

Ok, that sounds like its the HP we are used to and use to compare car to car. It makes sense to me not to unilaterally disarm.

As someone who bought a 6, I wish I would gotten the 8. So much more fun to drive. And I’m not even a speed guy. It just puts a smile on your face constantly.
