VelocityAP Jaguar F-Type High Flow 200 Cell Sport Catalysts + Downpipe
#61
Stuart,
Please keep us posted when you receive confirmation that the car can be tuned with the 200 sport cats to successfully make it through an OBDII emissions test. I don't want to have to swap out down pipes back and forth every 2 years. I'll install them with the L.T. headers when those become available.

If you want them to be able to plug into OBDII and not see any codes, and see sensor readiness we can do this.

That car needs stiffer springs and dampeners.

A. Sport Cats
B. Aftermarket Exhaust
C. Modify the stock exhaust - you could cut out windows in the central chamber, replace the 'valve open' resonator with straight pipe (cut/weld in) and then weld the casing back on.

On a V6, you can straight pipe the center resonator. On a V8 that resonator is removed already and has an XPipe. So your only options are:
A. Sport Cats
B. Aftermarket Exhaust
C. Modify the stock exhaust - you could cut out windows in the central chamber, replace the 'valve open' resonator with straight pipe (cut/weld in) and then weld the casing back on.

I had the central muffler on my XFR chopped out and replaced with an H-pipe, which allowed the XFR-S tune to stick and also improved the sound a little.
Is there any performance to be gained on the F-Type V6 by putting in an X-pipe or H-pipe, especially with your tune?
And what difference if any would it make to the exhaust note?

Well the purpose of the x-pipe (or H-pipe) is to balance out the uneven exhaust pulses in the V8, the V8's have an uneven firing order with two cylinders on each bank firing in succession. If you can imagine it fires; right, left, right, right, left, right, left, left and that sequential firing on the bank kind of doubles up the exhaust pulse down that pipe, the x-pipe, h-pipe (call it a crossover) relieves some of that pressure by balancing it out down the other exhaust pipe.
The V6 on the other hand is even fire; right, left, right, left, right, left so you don't have the same big pulses of exhaust.
I think an x-pipe will change the sound on a V6, but I don't think it'll bring any measurable performance gains, not like the V8's where they do really make a difference...

The software and/or crank pulley are the big gainers on the V6.

Sport cat will require software adjustment.

We haven't been able to dyno as a standalone modification, but based on the header results I would say minimal. That being said, what we know 100% is that leaving optimal condition peak dyno runs aside, in real world conditions, these cars VERY quickly default to primary & secondary enrichment tables based on cat temperatures. Even more so when tuned & pulley added. So by running the sport cats, we see cat temperatures drop and people are able to run their cars off the optimal fueling strategy for longer. So it's not so much a question of gains as preventing losses. If that makes sense.
