To Vette or not to Vette

The idea that you don’t need good and modern tech in a road car that is otherwise exhilarating to drive is trite. These are modern and sophisticated road cars sold at a premium. It’s proper to expect them to have innovative features to improve the total experience for the driver and passenger.

Within the first 30 minutes of unveiling the new 2020 Mid-Engine C8 Corvette within Connell Chevrolet, they completely SOLD OUT! 90 Allocations for the 2020 model year taken! They are now already accepting deposits for the 2021 model year... This demand is crazy and continues to grow. Chevy Dealer SELLS $5.4 Million of C8 Corvettes in just 30 Minutes! *NO MORE ORDERS*
At least the F-Type isn't hard-core cross shopped w/ the Vette or we'd be on the chopping block. The NSX is pretty much DONE as is the new Supra. I see a used/mint ZR1/Zora in my future, say five years from now. Bought my 2015R, MSRP $107k for $64k just because another gentlemen was nice enough to take the brutal depreciation hit for me. A $75k C8 w/ Z51 and options will be a $50k car on Ebay a year from now. I am a working man. Paying $2k a month in depreciation over a year's time is just not going to happen. Many better ways to blow money, hookers, whiskey lol. Let some guy that insists on being first in line take that bath.

If you got the money, there aren't many better ways to blow money... at least not for me.
You do know that PO of your car took it to Quick Lube for manager's special recycled oil changes and bounced off red line with a cold engine, right?

This is the car Jaguar should have built in 2014. Jaguar gave up on the C-X75--it would have been a very expensive car. Now Chevrolet has built it for a fraction of the price. So you can have it now with enough money left over to buy several F Types. Kudos to Chevrolet for bringing this car to the masses. Yes, you will see many of these cars on the road in a few years. Chevrolet just raised the bar in the sports car market. I plan on picking up the Z06 when it becomes available in about 2 years. Jaguar doesn't have the resources to build a competitive sports car to the C8...unless, Tata injects $10 billion in Jaguar ; and, we all know that's not going to happen. The Petro sports car market has a limited life. So, enjoy what you can afford and Chevrolet just handed us alot of joy...

Unlikely, I met the guy. Very wealthy Arab. Only sold the F-Type for Lambo top model Aventador. Buying from a dealer is only an option if it is proxy via a seller. Best case is always private party, used, mint cars. Buying new cars is for the wealthy or financially careless imo. With very rare exceptions - like the Ford GT 2005/06 - they are horrible money pits. Those that can or will buy a Jag or C8 and take a 40% haircut in year 1-2 - more power to you, not me.
Having my F-Type for 3-4 years will cost me about $15k in depreciation or as little as $300/mth. THAT I can live with; $2k a month? No way.

In regards to hookers, I prefer to be first in line... we all have our preferences. I’m keeping my ‘16 F-Type R... love this car... Also, I get enough Tech at work, when I’m not listening to the engine, the stereo rocks... also who needs maps... Waze is on the phone for tracking the 5.0...

First year cars are not a good plan. Unintended consequences galore. Been there, done that. Pace car Mustang turbo.
last year while car searching, my daughter, the difficult one said. She lives in Texas said!
“A corvette? Every hillbillies dream!”
i tried to drive one. Dealer was a jerk. Told me to go somewhere else to drive one. I appreciated the car was devoid of modern features, like a back up camera, duh. Lane assist. Etc.

Never thought I'd be interested in a corvette. Had 2 in high school being a poor student and a hillbilly, lol. Always looked at them as a greasy, redneck type of car since. However, the new C8 is a different breed. It is a 2 seater sports car and competes directly with the F Type at a fraction of the cost. Never thought I would want a Chev sports car. The C8 looks like a quality built car--time will tell the story. It certainly has raised the bar. Jaguar will have difficulty competing with the C8. It's a completely new car. I don't even look at it as a corvette hillbilly car.

I'll have to see one and sit in it to make a final judgement. I thought I really liked the new Z4 from pics but not so much in the flesh, nothing wrong but not special for over $50k. New Supra is more dramatic but I've out grown the boy racer look. So I'll wait and see on the Vette.

The look of the Supra doesn't do anything for me but it's a decent car by all accounts. I bought the Z4 M40i and am pretty happy with it so far. I have no doubt the 'vette is superior from a performance standard and I like the look of it but I think I made the right decision for me.
Cheers,
Dave
