Default Video of what I like to do in the Coupe R

A quick video going up and down a couple canyons in the Malibu area during a group drive. I was leading so no cars in front.

edit: And the second part is a one way road incase anyone was wondering.

What roads? At first I thought I thought it was Malibu Canyon or Kanan Dume but then some of the area did not look right for them. Mulholland? I do miss driving the canyon roads.

Were you just lucky or were there no other cars on the road that day?

I suspect they heard him coming and hid themselves to avoid what sounded like a strafing run.Name: mgun.gif

Going up was Las Flores Canyon. The second going down was Tuna Canyon.

No cars on the road which is fairly typical for those roads. Everyone always migrates towards Mulholland and the Snake.

OH great and mine is stored in my garage with a few feet of snow pretty much everywhere up here so I can't take it out.

Nice video and sound!! Great area to drive in !

You must not have the same problem we have around here with 'Barney' and his radar gun ever mile or so on our provincial roads ...

I guess spring is only a few months away now.. just have to wait.
Lawrence.

I did one of the Eurotopian rides in my Pantera on a day that the temperature reached 114F. My Pantera does not enjoy temperatures above 80, it was not happy, and I had to stop after the second meeting area. I should try it again some time in my XKR coupe. I did do a similar type of run through the San Gabriel mountain roads with some other forum members as well as about a dozen BMW forum members. Lots of fun!

When did you go on the drive? I've been a group leader for them from the beginning, however didn't go on all of drives. This was the first time I lead in the F-Type. Before I was in a gray Audi TT-RS.

I believe it was in July, 2012. We met up just past the Gelsons at Mulhollond Highway in Calabasas and then headed into the Santa Monica Mountains. It was the hottest day of the year (114), and as we headed upward and through the passes I watched my temperature gauge hover right at the overheating point. The first stop at a vista point saw a significant amount of anti-freeze boil out, and I didn't feel like rebuilding my engine for a second time. I let the car cool down for about a half hour and then limped home to the valley.

I remember seeing photos on Eurotopia's website or facebook page that showed my red Pantera. I've wanted to go on several of the other events but seemed to have something going on each time I wanted to go. Let me know when and where the next event is, and I'll try and make it.

I'm also starting to plan a March get together for Jaguar Forum members from SoCal. I'll come up with details in the next week or so. Hope you can make it.

I found a photo from Eurotopia's photos that were posted on the Pantera forum.
I think it was July, 2012, but could have been in August.

Did you attend any of the track events of the SoCal Audi Club when you had the AudiTTrs? I'm a member of SoCal Audi and John Deenihan, the President of the club, works for our automated parking company. I've been going to their track events for several years. (A number of us went last Friday to Buttonwillow Raceway for the first Hooked On Driving event in southern CA [really middle CA]). There was a V8s F-type there as well as a Carrera GT, a McClaren, and a bunch of other exotics. We had a blast. You ought to join us. I think the next event is in the middle of March at Willow Springs. Let me know if you're interested, and I'll forward you the information.

Ahh I remember your Pantera. I did lead that one. It was June 29th of '13. I found some pics. I didn't do any track events though. Only thing I did was No Fly Zone 3, the rolling half mile drag race. Let me know about the next event I might join up.

A great drive. We have a lot of similar roads over here but without the sunshine!

What kind of camera mount are you using for the view from the LHR quarter?

It was shot with a single Gopro Hero4 Silver (I did two runs). Standard motorsport suction cup mount. Had an external mic wired to the back. The quality is actually a lot better than what showed up on Youtube. For some reason the encode got screwed up.

I'll let you know early next week.
Thanks for the photos. I still love the Pantera's looks, the simplicity of its purposeful design and its contemporary appearance even after 45 years.

I do agree that the Pantera's body design is one of the best of all time, and it simply does not look at all dated.

I bought an external mic and skeleton case for the gopro.

Mic and adapter for hero3/4 Mic and adapter for hero3/4

Skeleton case Skeleton case

Then I just used suction cups to secure the mic and wire and mounted it right below the license plate. You get no wind noise.

I also ran the mic to the front once right at the bottom of the windshield protected by the hood overhang. From there you can hear the supercharger wine which is a pretty cool sound too.
