Default Voice activation

So, I just discovered that my new 2020 R-Dynamic only has voice activated phone capability when using Apple Carplay.
The system connects through Siri.
The problem is that in order to use Carplay, the Iphone must be connected to the car USB port,
This seems like a giant step backwards, considering my 4 year old Jeep Grand Cherokee came with voice activated phone standard.
So apart from griping about how cheap Jaguar is, I wondered if anyone has found a work-around to avoid plugging the phone in every time you get in the car??

Not a Jag related answer but my 2019 F-150 Limited has the same shortcoming. Can stream music and use the phone thru conventional bluetooth but cannot connect thru CarPlay and use the voice controls. Frustrating when some manufacturers have the tech and others don’t but have since found this is pretty common still. I’ve relegated to accepting this and now have a cable wired in behind the scenes that pops out by my mount. Not ideal but I want the voice controls and apple CarPlay so my start up routine now includes plugging in. Now it gets annoying when you need to actually pick up the phone for some reason...music stops, display changes, etc.

Why not get a wireless CarPlay adapter and plug it into the USB port?
Lots on the market.

It seems there are 3 "preferred" wireless dongles. Carplay2Air, Carlinkit2.0, and Joyauto.
I am planning to buy the Carlinkit2.0 ($110) which the company indicates is compatible with the F-Type.
Will report back when installed.

First update:
I can confirm that after 2 hours trial and error, the Carlinkit CPC200-U2W does not link to the F-Type.
This one is going back to Amazon. Glad I did not buy it direct from China!!

I have now ordered a slightly different (newer??) model, the CPC200-U2W Plus and will try that.
Will update hen I have tried it.

So , more follow up on voice activation dongles for the Jag CarPlay.

As reported previous, I exchanged the earlier model Carlinkit wireless dongle with the (newer) version CPC200-U2W Plus
The set-up was easy and fast. And, so far, it appears to work OK.
This unit eliminates the need for the I-phone to be wired to the center console USB for voice activation of CarPlay
I will update if there is any new information but for now this looks like a fix, though I still think Jaguar is cheap not to include voice activation as standard.
Many less expensive older cars have this feature, including my 4 year old Jeep.
So, if you want this feature you need to spend about $120 on the dongle.
My advice would be to buy from Amazon and avoid buying direct from the manufacturer in China, to avoid any possible return issues..
