WannaB NooB - question about buying
First time I'm seriously stalking and preparing to buy an F-Type R rear wheel drive 2015 or 2016
Planning on buying a CPO, but curious about the price swings that seem to be about mileage.
I see 20k-30k mileage cars in the $63k -$69k range then 40k-60k mileage cars in the $40k - $50k range
My question is why is there such a drop? Is there a problem with longevity? Are there high mileage F-Type R's on this forum?
Are there other issues I should be aware of?
Thanks for your feedback! Hope to be a regular member soon!

It is probably the MY split that you've selected 2015-2016. The higher mileage cars are most likely the older ones.
The 2015s had a 4Y/50K manufacturer warranty, so as far as market valuation, they are considered to be out of warranty: mid-late 2014 in service date ended late last year.
The 2016s were the first year Jag bumped to 5Y/60K, so they have 2 years of warranty left. Huge difference.
CPO is not figured into blue book, but CPO cars sell for a lot more than out of warranty cars.

Definitely go RWD if you can. They are perfectly safe and more fun to drive if you are capable of modulating the throttle, despite the press attacks that were funded by inferior brands. They are blisteringly fast cars with around 10% more wheel horsepower than the tamer handling AWD cars, out of the box. Lighter too.

Don't fear the F type reliability. I'm coming up on 2 trouble free years with my 2015 F type, and most here that I've heard from over the years have had great experiences with their cars. That said, if you are looking at cars with 60,000 plus miles, I'd want to know as much as possible about it. I work in some low income neighborhoods and am constantly shocked by the thrashing these folks put on their cars in short order. Consider buying a one-owner private party vehicle with full service records so you'll know as much as possible about the car and its condition. Find out if the car was always garaged. Get a pre purchase inspection from a knowledgeable mechanic. There are plenty of tells if a car has been driven abusively - Is the car on its 5th set of tires? 3rd set of brakes? Alignment issues? And I can tell a fair amount about the owner's level of care for the car with a visual inspection: get it out in the sunlight and look closely at the paint condition, check from many angles and look for swirls, scratches, or worse.
If you make your purchase carefully, I think you will be amazed at what a great value the F types are in terms of both performance and luxury, I can think of few other cars that deliver this level of styling and performance for the money....
