Default Water Leak Inside

This is the Second time I've taken the F-Type to the dealership. They claimed to fix it the first time. When it rains steady, it leaks in the corner behind the driver seat.

I just took it in again...they put it through the body ship...claiming there's no leak.

They did a Pathetic job...the one piece with the water drop on it in the 3rd picture was not put back correctly: it's marked up, loose and the other cover part was not put back at all as you can see.

Now, it's leaking even more than before! and consequently there is a mildew smell. Completely unacceptable.

Any ideas, suggestions?? Thanks

I feel for you. They will continue to damage trim pieces as they work on this. You should start asking for replacement pieces now. This is a "general manager come sit in the car with me" kind of situation.

Do you have the glass roof? I thinking it has to be one of those seals, or the upper seal on the "half window" that's in your picture.

Good point, thanks. I do have the glass roof. Yes, I'm quite certain they've scratched the black trim around the window on the exterior as well.

You've got to be kidding! In 2 years Jaguar hasn't figured this out? Another member with a '21 was complaining of water leaks as well.

It is obviously going to only be either the side rear window or from your pano roof. It is just poorly applied seals from sloppy workmanship. Or worst case scenario no seal at all if forgotten.
Just use the hose gently on the side window for a while to see if that is leaking first and if not then on the roof

Water will drain off roof to this area. This side has a small gap between the seal and the body work

This side has an even bigger gap.

I have no leaks and if water does drain into the gap it should run down the inside of the metalwork anyways and not end up in the car. It is possible if debris have build up under this then water will pool and go backwards into your cabin. You can try some blutac to close the gap and redo the hose test to confirm

Pretty stumped. Never noticed it from washing the car or rain before. Noticed this in the car yesterday.

Just hosed the window, pano roof and boot/roof gap for a good few minutes. No drips inside car. Most I noticed was the inside of the rubber seal to the right of the pic (top seal) got slightly wet, but nowhere near enough to drip.

Could this have been condensation? Im stumped.

If you go another round with these guys insist on water test that you can witness. Had to take our LR4 twice for sunroof leak. Clogged drainage tubes.

Just ran my finger along that top rubber seal after some rain. Drivers side bone dry. Passenger side was damp, enough to make my finger wet. Will get it booked in with the dealer!

I rinsed my car this morning and noticed something. The quarter windows have a thin rubber seal around the outside between the trim and the body panel. In the exact same spot on either side is a split in the rubber. Like a seam in the seal near the top/rear of the seal. Run your finger around the seam and you'll feel it.

Don't know if the roof's latches are adjustable, but we had two convertibles where UNEQUAL latching pressure resulted in leaks on the loose side.

Adjusting the latches to grip equally eliminated leaks for the rest of those cars' time with us.

++++++++++++

Another diagnostic strategy: smear a THIN coating of synthetic grease on the rubber seals to see if that prevents water egress. (Synthetic grease will not deteriorate rubber as petroleum grease does)

++++++++++++

@ReimsEdition I can't believe that it would be condensation on PLASTIC surfaces.

Did they say what the fix was? I'm curious how common this water leak issue is.
You have a coupe, right?

Coupe, yeah.

Haven’t been told yet. Was told Friday at the earliest for a diagnostic, then probably a few weeks for a fix.

I have a hunch it’s the gasket. There is a small split halfway along the top of the window on both sides. The side that is leaking has a gap at the split. Im nearly certain that’s where it’s getting in.

Bummer! Hate having to take cars to the dealer. Fingers crossed they get it taken care of for you!

Can't you just put some sealant over that small gap?
I have use black silicone RTV windscreen sealant heaps of times for similar little fixes on my cars, works great and I have never had a problem with it.
The secret is to clean up any excess pronto with mineral turps, before the sealant cures/sets, I simply clean off most of the excess with a finger dipped in turps then do a final clean up with a cotton rag dipped in turps.
Here is the exact gear I use, you should be able to get the same type from almost any auto parts store: https://www.supercheapauto.com.au/p/...5g/203606.html

FYI for anyone who ever has this issue. Jag diagnosed as a failed window seal. Being replaced under warranty.
