I would agree guys, we are consistent with one another showing the same understatement. I wanted to do this today before I install the radar and new stereo equipment. I figured I would do again after those get installed to see how much weight those 2 things add to the car. I'm hoping to keep it under 4,000. Now we just need to see how much some of these 'R's weigh..

The truth is that despite any rhetoric to the contrary, it isn't the V8 that adds the most weight, it's the AWD.

Thank you Foosh for providing me the impetus to take an hour off work and go weigh my car; on a certified scale it was 4166 lbs (I will post the ticket tomorrow when I'm on my computer)

4166 - me at 206 (just weighed myself when I got back c/w clothes, boots, jacket, wallet and the change in my pocket!) minus 114 lbs of fuel = 3846 lbs

No it isn't light, but it's pretty much dead on where I expected it to be.....and I wouldn't give up any of my fancy goodies to get lighter as I bought the car more as a sporty GT than a track car....so I'm happy. Would I be happier if it weighed less? sure, why not.

Now, I believe we have 3 V6 weights and 2 v8 weights.....I'd really like to see a v6s AWD myself.

Cheers,
Dave

So for the sake of the data;

V8S (convertible, RWD, Auto, 20" wheels) with every option I'm aware of except the heated windshield and lighted sill plates = 3846 lbs wet, no fuel.

Having made the humorous observation many times that with me HOV refers to highly overweight vehicle, I'll get my V8s weighed this weekend. I'm heavily (pun intended) optioned so it should give you another data point.

So assuming my math is correct (I'm sure someone will point it out if it's not! ;-) )

AWD - V8R coupe (AWD Auto) = 3954 lbs

DPelletier - V8S 'vert (RWD Auto) = 3846 lbs

Smoke em - V6S coupe (RWD Auto) = 3726 lbs

Unhinged - V6S coupe (RWD 6spd) = 3689 lbs

Foosh - V6 Base 'vert (RWD Auto) = 3667 lbs.

* all weights are wet, no driver, no fuel on a certified scale.

Wow, this is shocking.

My XJR weighed in at 1710kg at the drag strip, without me in it, no spare/jack and a 1/4 tank of fuel. That's 3762lbs.

My 4-door supercharged V8 luxury saloon weighs less than your 2-door sports cars?

(the specs for the XJR say 1665kg / 3663lbs btw)

No problem; we can keep adding to it when (if) more people weigh their cars.

Foosh for the win so far! I guess someone with a V6 Base coupe 6 spd with minimal options would have the lightest possible F type.

Apparently so; I guess the fact that it's a fully aluminum (or is it aluminium? ;-) ) 2 seat sportscar doesn't make up for about a thousand lbs worth of electronic crap.....er I mean stuff. LOL.

Cheers,
Dave

I'm still struggling to get my head around it to be honest.

My XJR is also an ALUMINIUM body, full electric seats in the front (which way a tonne btw), heaps of electrical crap in it, plus a full air suspension system, 20" wheels, big brakes, it is about 2 feet longer than the F-Type, twice as much glass, twice as many doors, etc. etc.

I can't imagine that the 5.0L weighs much more than the 4.2L, or the 8-speed auto weighs that much more than the older 6 speed auto.

Although the 5.0L X150 XKR was noted as being 3770lbs in the specs so maybe....

Yeah, I was joking around a bit mentioning the electronics but it is a bit of a head scratcher. One thing that came to mind is that I wonder if the F type weighs a bit more because it was originally designed as a convertible and so, has more structural weight for rigidity.....then when the added the roof for the coupe, they didn't lighten the chassis....I guess the good news is that the F type is supposedly fairly rigid. ....just a thought. Or maybe the 4.2/6spd IS lighter than the 5.0/8spd....and maybe lighter than the V6/8spd as well. I don't know, just throwing stuff out there; as you say other than that, construction and electrical goodies seem comparable.

Cheers,
Dave

The F-Type is heavy for all the superb stereo equipment they put in the car to make it sound so awesome =)

No options at all except for the heated seats and steering wheel, which can't imagine would even add an extra lb. However, my car would have been lighter had I not mounted a set of 20" Gyrodynes, which it was weighed with. I'm guessing 3620, which is still way more than JLR claimed.

Motorized steering wheel, motorized mirrors (position motors plus retraction motor), motorized seats, motorized door handles, motorized roof (for the vert), motorized vent, electric pump for active exhaust, adaptive damping solenoids...

+1 Yes, good point, and w/ the exception of active exhaust and adjustable dampers, those are all std. equipment on the base. There is no delete option in the order process.
