Default Weird sound from tank when pumping gas?

I just got gas for the first time in my new car and the gas tank made a really weird sound while it was pumping. Kind of sounded like air escaping. Never heard anything like it. Does anyone have any idea what it is or had a similar experience? Not sure if I should take back to dealer right away to get it looked at or if it'll resolve on it's own. Thanks.

Well, air does have to vent out when you fill with gas, But I never paid much attention to the sound.

Nothing to worry about.

Personally, I'd mention it to the dealer. I believe our vehicles have a vapor recovery system, so I wouldn't expect air to come back out of the filler tube, if that's what you think you're hearing. I had the vapor recovery purge valve replaced on my car, though I wasn't aware of any symptoms - it probably threw an emissions code.

I don't notice any noises when I fuel my car, though due to issues with the fueling neck, it may have changed for the 2017.

Here's a general discussion of vapor recovery systems, for those interested...

Thanks everyone. I did just speak to my Jag service guy and he said that the sound is normal (as long as everything else seems to be operating okay and I'm not having any trouble pumping the gas). He said it's the sound of air displacing when the fuel is pumped in and is due to the shape of the fueling neck. So I guess nothing to worry about. Will still keep an eye on it though.

Mine will make the noise depending on the type of vapor recover nozzle used at the pump.
