Exclamation Well his is disappointing…Open Hood Warning

I noticed today while on a drive that the “open hood” message warning showed up on my center dash screen. I hadn’t opened the hood myself lately, but the guys at the PPF install place had certainly opened it in order to wrap the edges. But the warning was not present when I picked it up once they were done.

This normally would just be an annoying light that I’d ignore till I got into the dealer, but the problem is, I can’t lock the car now with this message unaddressed. Anyone have this problem already. I’ve had the car 2 weeks so to day I am disappointed is to put it mildly.

I am the 2nd owner of this R model and bought it with 5,500 miles on it. Ideas? Anyone know where the sensor is that could be faulty? YES, I did make sure the hood was securely closed and latched.

Thanks folks.

Have you tried the obvious first check?
Open and close the hood a few times to see if the message goes away.
Also check the hood alignment to see if it is fully sitting down all the way around when closed.
If the message is still there after trying this maybe one of the latches isn't fully engaging.

Default obvious "fixes" tried.

Yes, I have tried opening and then closing the hood repeatedly. NO dice. Alignment is good as I use pressure to the middle of the hood, not from just one side. Both latches are rock solid too.

How about lubrication of the latches?

Our '14 F's PO had grease slathered on the bonnet latches since we got it. Never an issue in three years.

I wouldn't use a liquid oil, for fear that it would penetrate into the electrical bits and cause issues.

I had this issue - literally on the day I picked up the car. (A bit disconcerting going down I-95 with a hood warning.) And, as you discovered, it blocks locking the car, as well.

But, it was a quick fix - just a sensor - and hasn't been an issue since.
