Default what a car!

You know, in these weird and dark times, a few days away from the F car...took a drive.

Wow.

Stock dynamic suspension - awesome.
Stock flat heated amazing leather steering wheel - awesome.
Stock speakers all over the place - great radio.
Stock exhaust - makes you turn the radio off.
Brown leather sport seats (camel) - great seats and great seating position
Dynamic mode - wow...

Conti DWS06plus tires on stock 19" (soon forged 20's): wow...handles superbly.

What an amazing, beautiful, fun car. Smiled so much my face is sore.

Have a nice day all....sometimes it is good to just say how great things are...most threads are about problems. This car just rocks. Best one yet and I had a blueprinted 996tt track monster. This one is smooth, soundful (is that a word?), and fun. It is high theatre in only a positive sense...and it does not shout the things some other cars do..... All that from only 45 minutes... wow.

If I was driving a car like yours, I'll play it out loud the song "Highway Star" by Deep Purple while cruising down the road

good timing, just had mine out for a short drive (do it when I can during winter) - always a pleasure. I have stuff that goes better in wet or snowy conditions and one that makes the f type’s power seem almost average, but none that I feel as connected with when driving.

Jcb-memphis: your experience mirrors my reaction exactly -every time I take my V6S out for a run. The forums are the gathering place for those of us who have a problem, a concern, or a query but the vast majority of owners simply love these cars, and their voices are not heared often enough. The F-Type is going to be another Jaguar classic. Its beauty just doesn’t fade.

Default 2018 V6 base

I absolutely love mine and have had nothing but fun with it. I even got rid of my big motorcycle that I used to tour on. Why would I want to deal with the elements on a motorcycle when we could just hop in the F and drive. It that much fun. It’s an absolutely amazing GT car and it makes me smile every time I get into it. I’ve got a faster car that is a better track car. My Tacoma is more versatile. My wife’s E Pace holds more people but none comes close to the smiles per gallon of the F.

I have Machine Head by Deep Purple on one of the USB sticks in my F Type R. It's nice to sing along with Highway Star and not have to change the lyrics from "eight cylinders all mine" to "4 cylinders" or "6 cylinders" or god forbid, "full batteries all mine"

V6 folks can settle for the cover (with six-cylinder lyrics) by X-Cops, but it's just not as good as the Deep Purple original.

I was listening to that song on cassette in 1978 in a car with about a quarter of my current V6 horsepower. Even that CUDA was probably less than half the HP of the current R. Technology ain't all bad.

Yep, I used to be guilty of the old "muscle car" trope of "There's no replacement for displacement"...but, a Super-charger or Turbo actually do replace the need for CID. My 1994 XJ12 had 50% more cylinders than my '22 F-Type, but only half the HP.

It really only works if you append "all other factors being equal." Forced induction is a great equalizer. Also, even though I may get twinges of nostalgia for carburetors, I don't really miss them.

EDIT: I also don't miss cassette tapes stretching in the summer heat.

One benefit to the environment since the discontinuance of cassette players in vehicles is that you no longer see the cassettes by the side of the road with several feet of tape hanging out, obviously having been tossed out the window of a moving vehicle after being extricated from the player by a angry driver !

Wonder what the current age cutoff is for people who've used a pencil to reel back in the cassette tape, after carefully pulling the bunched-up tape out of the deck.

Bonus if you ever recorded a computer program on a cassette.

On the original topic, there's a frozen glaze over everything here right now, glad the car is hibernating.

I still have my "mix tapes"...spent hours recording them from vinyl records and, later, CDs. more than once had to employ my pinky finger or a pencil to rewind the tape. Even fixed a few through the years with scotch tape when they broke. Got used to exactly where the "skip" was in those songs. And, my first computer was an Atari 4800 with cassette...used to take 45 mintues just to load 1 of the old 2-word adventure games...that was if it didn't crash and had to start all over. Frozen here in Kalamazoo too! My F-Type slumbers on a trickle charge as well.

JCB, I agree with all of it! I take it by your name you might be from Memphis? I'm in Bartlett if so with a 15 Ultimate Metallic Black S with a few Velocity goodies thrown on it

"TIME" One of those songs that must be played loud.

I was watching Harry's Garage the other night, specifically the P450 video (again) and as I sat there ogling the car, I remembered .... "oh yeah, I've got one of those!" and I smiled, an enormous great smile. And I might have giggled like a little child, just for a moment mind you, like I am now remembering that!

It doesn't matter whether I'm stuck in a traffic jam, cruising along the motorway, or hammering it around some country lanes, the car handles all of it with aplomb. I can do a 5-hour drive and get out at the end as if I'd just popped round the corner, such is the comfort and grace with which the car gets me from A to B. Now, I'll admit, my car history is not exactly littered with what you might call "luxurious motoring", but I can't ask for anything more of my Jag in terms of how it makes me feel on a daily basis. I look at it, no, I STARE at it every time I walk past it on the driveway. I look back over my shoulder as I walk away from it, as if it's the last time I'll ever see it, even knowing I'll get to look at it again in just a few minutes. And every single time I want to bite my fist.

From the moment I wake up, on a day when I'm going to take it on a decent drive, to the moment I step out of it at the end of that journey and lock the doors, the car makes my life better. Not better in a way that can be measured of course, just "better". I cannot think of any higher praise than that.

What a car indeed.
