Default What led up to your Ftype?

Reminiscing about previous cars is a fun trip down memory lane. It's neat to see the variety people bounce around from before they settle on their latest ride. Just curious what preceded the F types here? Here's my family tree (kind of an eclectic bunch):
1987 pathfinder 4x4
1994 Porsche 968
2002 boxster
2004 A4 Quattro
2010 xterra off-road (still here)
2006 997 cabriolet
2012 Challenger srt8 392
2015 GTI (daily driver)
2014 Ftype

1994 RX-7 ---> 2003 Honda S2000 ---> got out of cars --->
2011 987 Cayman ---> 2013 991 911 C2 ---> 2015 F-Type Coupe R

At current rate, 2017 ????
Variety is the spice of life

Always wanted an S2000. Bet it was fun. It's interesting to see that a lot of Ftype owners came from 911's. Guess that's what jaguar was going for.

S2000 was fun. Loved revving it to 9k RPM. My license plate was SHIFT9K
I do sometimes miss a low weight, super nimble, back to basics sports car. But the F-Type's styling and 500 lb ft of torque makes up for a lot

Fairly long list for me:
1979 Mustang Cobra turbo
1982 Ford Escort
1985 Chev Monte Carlo
1988 Merkur XR4 Ti
1992-present 6 Ford pick-ups
2003 Volvo S60 "R"
1999 Mustang Cobra
2008 GT500 Super Snake (Still Own)
2015 F-Type "R"
I just remembered, I had a 1978 silver anniversary Corvette too in 1984. It had been ridden hard and put away wet.

Tried to get my dad to by a xr4ti when I was kid. American muscle (gt500) is fun to have around. My challenger srt was a daily driver when I had it.

In no particular order (there's considerable overlap in some cases):
Alfa Romeo Guilietta
Peugeot 205 GTi
Toyota MR2GT
Rover Mini Cooper
VW Golf GTi Mk2
VW Corrado VR6/G60/16v
R53 Mini Cooper S Works
Alfa Romeo Brera 3.2 S
MGF
E46 330ci

And then, there were the clunkers of my teenage/student years:
Ford Cortina Mk3 (Orange, with a black vinyl covered roof)
Austin Metro (the van version - flat out at 88mph, but with the suspension and brakes from the Turbo)
Austin Maestro (in beige, with a brown interior).

The XR4Ti was fun to drive but it was problematic. I got rid of it as soon as the warranty was up. The Super Snake is fun to have. It feels pretty rough after driving the Jag. Two different beasts though. One a sports car, the other a muscle car.

Current:
2009 Mercury Milan Hybrid (same as Ford Fusion)

Oh my . . . my list is well over 50 vehicles and counting from a dozen different manufacturers. I have a list saved somewhere. For the last 25 years or so, I've averaged 4-6 vehicles at any one time.

This is actually my first 2-seat sports car since I had a '69 Austin Healy Sprite and a '72 Fiat 850 Spyder back in the mid-seventies...more recently I was into these cars in a big way but am slowly shifting gears and selling off the stable.

Now I'm content playing with both my '15 Jaguar and my '28 Ford Roadster...and of course the funny car when I want LOUD!

Those don't look hugely practical, but they look like a lot of fun.

buickfunnycar: Such a wide range of intoxicating colors...eh, cars!. Gorgeous!

With a few omissions I'm sure:

1972 Pontiac Firebird Formula
1980 Mazda RX-7
1988 Jaguar XJ-6
1994 Acura NSX
1997 Acura NSX
1987 Volvo 740 (Divorce in NY does wonders for reducing the common man to extremely common - and humble - cars; the Volvo being my girlfriend's second car at the time)
1991 Ford Escort (A live-saver at the time, believe it or not)
2002 Audi A4 Wagon
2004 Subaru WRX
2004 Audi A8L
2004 BMW 325-XI Wagon
2015 F-Type V6S

Since I have quite some time before my F-Type order has to be locked down, both the NSX and the Tesla Roadster both remain possible contenders depending on looks, price, and in the case of the NSX, MT availability. I find that direct drive on the Teslas is as engaging as a gear box.

I believe both are due for introduction at the Detroit car show in January. I'm guessing the NSX will be in the mid-$100k range and the Tesla closer to the R in price. But neither will be able to match the sweet sound of the F-Type, so I doubt I'll lose my credentials to this forum (at least not for buying another marque)
