Default What's your experience with delivery times?

It seems there has been a variety of delivery times and changes posted this past month. Just this past week one dealer was quoted as indicating a 6+ month delivery time. Some have mentioned revised times which are earlier than first estimated, others have reported delays. I was given a 3-1/2 month estimate this past week. Some have taken deliveries and have hard numbers. I think many who have orders in would like to hear about your experience, especially for calendar year 2015 deliveries.

For perspective, I looked at USA F-Type sales numbers for 2015, and while they are stronger than last year, they are Jan=301, Feb=422, Mar=335, April sales slumped to 274 cars. It made me wonder if factory orders are down and we may see shorter delivery times, or was this just a blip? Others have reported long in-port delays (20+ days), and I wonder whether the recent US dock worker labor disputes, which included port shutdowns on the West Coast and sympathy slow-downs at other US ports, were part of this?

I put my deposit on the f type Nov. 20, 2014. I received my 2016 F type S coupe Mar. 28, 2015. So it was roughly four months for me to receive my car

My delay was one of the most notable. From what I can tell my original vehicle still has not arrived at a dealership yet. This had nothing to do with labor disputes or factors outside of Jaguars control, only Jaguar being terrible at handling the situation. I expect normal order times should be in the 3-4 month range, but mine was about 6.

See signature. It all depends on when the dealer has car slots. If they are building for "stock" for the dealer, chances are the car can be modified for you if they can be changed.

133 long days; ordered 10/30/14 picked-up 2/20/15. Dealer told me car was built the last week of the year but the release date from the Castle Bromwich factory is 1/14/15.

I did the tour at Castle Bromwich 11/6/15, saw them being built -- I highly recommend this for anyone interested in the cars, it was fantastic. https://www.jaguar.com/experience-ja...-bromwich.html
They told me that they could build 80 cars a day, but the factory didn't run weekends and there was a lot of "down time" when they were running special projects through the line. From my notes:

"Takes ~5 days to build a car, 1 ½ days to fabricate the body-in-white, 2 days in the paint shop, then 1 ½ days to turn the painted shell into QC’ed and packed car." I think STOHLEN's car was done in half that time ;-)

Because they didn't put it together all the way? Because I would believe that.

I was originally planning to custom order a V6S, but I spoke with 3 different dealers who each gave me different estimates for delivery times. I verified that they had open allocations and they could each place an order right away. From what I was told, the nominal expectation for delivery is 3-4 months, but each indicated independently that there have been delays and some cars have taken more like 5-6. One dealer outright said to expect 6 months but hope for less. I didn't want to deal with that kind of delay, and since I was able to find a car that met my needs in dealer stock, I decided not to wait.

Of course, now I have 3 months to wait for the lease to expire on my BMW, but that's fine. It gives me time to get the Jag looking the way I want it, and I can avoid putting unnecessary miles on it. The BMW has like 5,000 more miles on the lease so I might as well use them up.

So far so good. Dealer just responded with this info.

Order date - 5/22/2015
Accepted build date - 7/10/2015
Current planned build date - Week ending 7/10/2015
Factory complete date - 7/20/2015
Planned dealer delivery date - 9/11/2015
Planned hand-over date - 9/15/2015

If factory meets this schedule then it's one week short of 4 months, order to customer delivery.

That's consistent with my order time. Once the system was able to take the order (after 4.5 mos of waiting for intro of the 6 speed), my delivery was scheduled 3.5 mos. thereafter. Given your inland location, the extra week makes sense.

Default optimist or realist?

Mine was ordered yesterday, May 27. Quote from the sales manager: "It will be built on 7/21 and be delivered on 8/21."

Hmmmm...

Once an order is entered, it takes a number of days for the order to be confirmed and the estimated dates to show up in the system. It is quite possible that yours was a dealer allocation that had been in the system for a number of weeks and the last change order date has net yet been passed.

Great input. We are seriously looking to see if we can manage a 3-day stopover in Birmingham on our way to the continent, and get a factory tour in September. I didn't yet check into availability, but I will.

Hmmmm... Keep us posted with updates and I will as well. This is some serious discrepancy given my build date is "week ending 7/10/2015" (before yours), and hand-over date is 9/16. This could also be due to the port. Dealer told me that Colorado gets deliveries from the Port of Los Angeles.

Mine is the 8-speed auto, Base; is your a 6-speed manual? Maybe they are setting aside some production time to get a bunch of manuals out?

Guess I should have included the:
"Last date of order change = 6/15/2015."

No, mjm3457, mine's not a manual. It's an S automatic.

Update, as requested: On lhoboy's advice in another thread ("from order to delivery: Qs about the process"), I requested and obtained the View Order form for my car. Order created 5/12. Last date of order change: 6/16. Current planned build date: week ending 7/20. Planned dealer delivery date: 8/20. So lhoboy was right (see earlier post in this thread): my car was a change order for a car already in the system for a few days.

Keep us posted.

I understand about the dealer change order issue, but the delivery estimates still don't make sense to me. My car is being built the week ending 7/10, one week ahead of yours, yet my delivery is estimate is 4 weeks after yours? I guess the Jaguar gods know what they are doing... do you think? Hope? Is this possibly all East Coast vs West Coast transit time?

Also, there is no week ending July 20 in 2015, on my Gregorian calendar. You can have the weeks ending July 10 or 17. ???

Re: "week ending," that's what my car's View Order says, so "week" must mean 7-day period.

As for the difference in delivery time, this is just conjecture but maybe it's a question of east v. west coast ports. Your car will go the lo-o-o-ng way around.

Dealer just dropped me an email saying I have a VIN. It starts SAJW, and ends, 8765. My original build date was week ending July 10, so looks like mine has been moved up like others. Mine is a Base, 8-speed. He also said, should be on a boat "soon," and delivery in late August. That sounds early to me; we shall see.

Yes, the trip from Southhampton to the Port of LA is nearly 9K nautical miles. To Baltimore, it's just under 4K. In addition, getting through the Panama Canal takes a lot of time.
