Default Wheel Size and offsets

Hi all,

I have been reading the threads about wheel sizes and can't find the information I need. So hopefully someone can guide me. I have a 2017 R Coupe with 20" Gyrodynes I want to change them. I don't want the ride to be any harder so I don't think that 21" with lower profile tires are the way to go. I will stick with the 20" size. Now here is the question: Currently I have 9" x 20" Fronts and the 10.5" x 20" on the rears. I don't want any issues with bottoming out, or tires rubbing on the wheel wells, but I wouldn't mind maybe going a half in wider. I was going to use the Michelin Pilot Sport 4S as everyone says they are great. So if I go with the stock rims or the wider rims, what should the offsets be? and should I go with the 305 & 265 set up for tires or something else? I just don't want to "shoot my wad" and find I screwed up...

Thanks

Jeff

PS: I have stock springs.

With 9.0/10.5 you can safely move the wheel face out 15mm with the 255/295 tire combo. If you go to 265/305 tires you can only move the face 10mm which is problematic as the wheel studs are too long to accommodate an adapter and too short for spacers. To do this the 55/38 offsets would need to be decreased by 10mm. This is only guaranteed to work with the Pirellis and Michelins. Another brand of the 295 tire bit the fender with 15mm adapters.

For 9.5/11.0 wheels, you will want to use 265/305 tires. With these wheels you’ll want 46/29mm offsets to push the wheel face out 15mm from stock.

Can anyone confirm definitively that an 11" rim with a 305 tire will fit on the rear of the F-type R without modifications or fouling the wheel arch over bumps. I have the stock spring and clearance set up?

Thanks

Jeff

no problem whatsoever. There’s lots of room in the wheel well. Just choose the offset wisely. Mine are 20 x 11” with a 32mm offset. Even with the 1.5” suspension drop I have in the rear, I never have tire rub with the 305 tires.

Ok so I finally pulled the trigger on some Variant rims.

The rears are 11" and the fronts are 9". Can you help me with the tire sizes? I guess 305 on the rear and what on the fronts? and what profile, if I go with MP4s?

Thanks

Jeff

I've struggled finding wheels that compliment the f-type (I usually always change wheels on my cars), but those are awesome. I think they will look amazing.

The perfect fit for those wheels would be 305/30-20 rear and 255/35-20 front on an RWD, but you should squeeze 265/35-20 on the front with your AWD.

Those look great, what color is your R? Please post pics when you've installed them. I've been eyeing the Variant Kryptons in gloss black or black chrome, but at the same time wanted non-black on my otherwise black R.

On a related note, anyone tried or estimate if I could fit 285/30/20 fronts and 325/25/20 rears given correct-width wheels w/ stock offsets of +55 and +38? This should be equiv of pushing 15mm outward so should clear fenders, but is there 15mm extra room inwards?

No problem with inner clearance. Plenty of spare room.
