Wheel & Tire Insurance
#21
So you also have the wheel & tire insurance? I'm asking because you stated that they wouldn't repair a punctured tire, that they'd replace it with a new one. Well when I went to the dealer the other day, they were talking about repairing the tire until they found out it was a cracked rim. I told them I didn't want a repaired tire (plug) because it would compromise the integrity of the tire.
I got mine at a nice discount (as well as a good price on my window tint and Xpel wrap), BECAUSE I actually paid MSRP for the car. I was the first one to order a 2016 in DFW area, and when I did, MSRP hadn't even been announced.
Mine does NOT include cosmetic damage repair for wheels, but will replace them if they are damaged causing the tire to not hold air, or they are not straight or able to be balance. I got mine more for the TIRE protection than the wheels. I live in an area of town where new homes are constantly being built and I have had a nail or screw puncture at least twice a year for the past 2 or 3 years in my other vehicles. In cases like this with my current policy, the tires would have been replaced.

There is no standard tire and wheel coverage policy. You have to read the fine print. This is something that dealers negotiate with companies offering such coverage, and there is no JLR standard here.
Also BTW, a plug is a temporary repair performed with the tire still on the wheel, but a tire repaired properly from the inside doesn't necessarily suffer from compromised integrity. I suspect all tire and wheel coverage policies, at minimum, cover tire removal from the wheel and proper repair. I wouldn't have a problem with that unless I planned to be traveling above 150 mph on a track.

The coverage is provided by a 3rd party insurer. You can take it to any bona fide wheel restorer you want to...even a good one. In my case, the insurer puts a $125 per wheel per incident limit on curb rash repair.
