Default When did the park brake / roof buttons change?

If you refer to these two pictures, by comparing to your car can you tell me when the switch design changed from the skinny base to the fat base?

I've trying to find a replacement for my car but my dealer can only locate one part in the EPC and it is the skinny one. I need the fat one, in grey as fitted to the V8 models.

Searching online shows mixed results from photos as it is not always clear which model year has been photographed.

Thank you!

The switches are different for the V6 and V8 models.

Did the your dealer find T2R3192 as the correct parking brake switch part number for a LHD 5.0 vehicle?

Thanks for the quick reply.

Looking at my invoice we originally ordered T2R3193 (mine is RHD, UK spec V8R) but although it was grey not shiney silver it was the skinny kind. I must admit I did not pay attention to the label on the box when I went in to collect it, I just opened it at the parts desk and spotted it was wrong. It sounds like they may have ordered the wrong part?

It is not helped because my car is an early 2015MY that is technically a few 100 before the VIN start for the 2015MY, so sometimes we have had difficulty getting the correct parts, but in the EPC there are no VIN breaks shown for these switches hence my confusion.

Sorry, did not notice you have a RHD vehicle, just looked at the photos.

It appears that T2R3193 is the correct part number, unless it has been superseded by JLR. I assume you also provided the VIN to the Jaguar agency when ordering the part.

Perhaps a ring to JLR corporate by the dealer is in order?

Thank you for confirming the part number.

I will call in again on Monday and discuss with their parts guy. I went in and ordered it at the dealer and they had to order it in from where ever they get their parts from, but from what you are saying it was either the wrong part supplied or they did not order the correct part in the first place.

If they are sure they did order the correct part I will ask them to phone and check.

Fortunately the dealer is on my route to the office so I pass them every day.

I went back in today to discuss with the dealer. From stock they pulled out a folding roof switch from the same VIN range as my car, V8 variant, in grey, and it too was the skinny type not the fat type as expected. I grabbed a photo to show with the part number visible.

The folding roof switch has been replaced on later models (from K22185 goes to T2R19294). The park brake swtich has never been replaced though and remains just the one part for V8 models of T2R3193.

I took in the two photos from the start of this thread and asked him to contact Jaguar and confirm the part numbers I need.

Ok, now I am really confused.

Here are two new pictures both of a V8R (RHD this time, so the same as my car). One is an early model with the straight temperature and fuel gauges, which my car has. That one has the skiny park brake button.

The other is from a later car with the incontrol infotainment system, and has the fat button.

Even though the park brake switch only has one part number of T2R2193 (RHD) and T2R3192 (LHD)

Hopefully from the two earlier images the dealer can get the right part. If not, it looks like the console finisher piece is the same across all model years for the auto version so I guess I can get them to fit the skinny switch instead as long as it works.

Perhaps the vendor used by JLR for that particular switch changed design for some reason.

If the slimmer version switch fits the console and functions correctly, that may be your only choice as I am assuming your vehicle is still under the basic warranty.

I'm generally pretty good at "Spot the Difference" quizzes, but I'm not seeing a difference in any of the pictures posted?

If you look at the grey base of the button it is either fat (about 1cm) or thin (about 2mm).

For future reference if anyone wants to buy the fat grey EBP switch pictured above, the part has been confirmed by JLR as T2R2193 (RHD) and T2R3192 (LHD). It appears the first one was missorted because the box is marked as T2R2193.

However, I decided to go for the skinny one in the end as they had a matching skinny soft roof button in grey which they gave me for free for the inconvienience. I know I have the coupe, but I'm going to use that switch to toggle between front and rear cameras because it won't look as out-of-place as an aftermarket switch.

Well done! But forty years from now someone will say 'that's the wrong switch', to which the response can be: 'so what?'...
