He communicated with me several times expressing his displeasure with all the sniping and griping going on at the time. He mentioned he wasn't enjoying the site much anymore.

Jay's out having a great time driving his F-Type. Not to worry, he knows how to enjoy himself.

I have felt the same lately, if I see one more radio complaint I'm gone!

I've often felt the same way, but I do have to agree that JLR has a major problem since we're hearing it from so many people. On car forums, I've heard sound system and other minor gripes on every high-dollar car I've ever owned, but for the F-Type, the sound system issue has become a near riot on this forum. I haven't seen anything like this level of angst since composite roof panels started de-bonding and flying off C6 Z06s in 2006, as did mine.

Obviously, for those of us with no problem, it's hard to relate.

On the upside, the C6 had the fastest opening roof of pretty much any car ever.

LOL . . . well not exactly. It was only the 06 MY C6 Z06. The std. C6 had a removable roof with latches, but the C6 Z06 was the only model that had an aluminum frame and a fixed roof. It was 505HP and weighed about 3100 lbs, which is a super lightweight by modern standards.

A polycarbonate panel was glued to the AL frame. It was only the outer panel flying off, the headliner and everything else stayed in place. It was the first time they used that very lightweight material, and obviously had issues with bonding it to the frame.

To their credit, they were all over it quickly. By the end of the model year they went back to an old material and had all the roofs replaced, and there were no repeat "fly-offs." As far as I know, it never happened on any MY other than the '06 Z06.

The old material weighed 1-2 lbs. more than the original panel, which was no big deal. GM was so obsessed with making the C6 Z06 as light as possible, they shaved 1-2 lbs. wherever they could.

Ultimately, they were forgiven, and everyone forgot about it quickly. Perhaps it would be a good case for JLR to study w/ regard to handling the "Meridian scandal."

Shame to hear about Ricky, good guy really like him, hopefully see him around at some point.
As a car forum, there will always be moans n groans about the manufacturer, issues with the car, this, that and the other.....it's the very nature of why we're here to some degree.

If it's sniping on a personal level, insults, trolling etc then that's different and something we take seriously, but its not something I've heard of?
We usually are on top of such things and they are dealt with as required.

It's unfortunate but members come and members go, many many hundreds, thousands even since I've been here from around 2006
Hope to see Ricky again at some point...

Hi Foosh:
Thanks for this one quote. My sentiments exactly, and the day that there is any issue worthy of a fix, or a positive statement that causes me hesitation to post and participate, I lose my patience and feel smothered. This is supposed to be fun, informative and healthy, which for the most part it has been. Learned a lot:
NavTV camera module
LP bracket
flashing "D" and others with the issue
Automatic roof/window drop module
Good stuff plus:
The MERIDIAN ISSUE by a large enough group confirming my thoughts
JLR responding well (and I posted this) fixing my issue and complimenting them
Potential bulletin on this coming out soon (my car was a part of the issue recognition, so I am told by JLR). Like to think this forum and working with JLR customer service were all a part of it.
Etc.............

Thanks for the quote, which took the thoughts out of my mind to post this.

What Foosh said. I emailed Jay last week and he's fine. May try to get together this fall.

I can't speak for Jay, but months ago, I started to feel the general sentiments of threads in this forum had moved to the negative side.

I just love my car, and reading many of the threads was just detracting from my enjoyment of what is a truly excellent car. I therefore decided to just stop checking in much anymore. Everyone's entitled to express their opinions, of course, and some certainly do so with impressive frequency, although quantity definitely does not guarantee quality.

I'll still check in from time to time and who knows, perhaps the forum will recapture the enthusiasm and positivity of 2014, but in the meantime, I'm going to heed the advice of my dear, departed grandmother, who said, "if you can't say something nice, say nothing at all".

Happy driving, F-Typers!

You'll find my good time Jag pics on Instagram... @4_Eff_Sake
