Who brought the v8 just because of the sound?

Cambo also has a theory that the car is running a fail safe map due to errors with the update process and the ECU might need a hard reboot.

Ok I'll try to elaborate first thing we noticed was the lack of sound coming on the over run but when we were doing the sound files for the forum I noticed the power loss before I just thought I'd got use to the power I remember saying to my other half how quickly you get us to it not really thinking it had lost any as it was still a fast car.
But after yesterday I soon realised how much it had lost it was a total different car before at 20 mph I could have one hand on the steering wheel and put my foot hard down and the traction control never came in even on cold tires and cold roads but yesterday you needed two hands on and even trying to loss traction on gear changes plus the sound was back.
As for the global problem only affecting some cars we no that earlier cars had different ecu's fitted I don't no if this is a key factor but myself and ek993 no that build number difference between the two cars is 954 so in the total number of cars built this is a small number worldwide I'm not saying mine was the first and ek993 the last but I hope you can work out what I'm trying to say.

After more driving and thinking, I now feel that I may have the same issue as richv8s. Driving around town, I think I now get more low-speed exhaust entertainment when I'm in normal+sport+exhaust open mode than when I'm in dynamic+sport.
It used to be the other way around (i.e. I think dynamic+sport mode used to be noisier).
I agree that it's difficult to notice any performance difference without another car to compare with (I seldom drive outside the urban area), but I'm thinking it would be interesting to get a dyno test...

Standard + sport - lots of overrun, pops, crackles, bangs at normal driving speeds - this is what dynamic + sport used to sound like for me
Dynamic mode - almost no pops and bangs.
Dynamic + sport - zero overrun when driving "normally". This used to be the nosiest mode by far, the amount of overrun generated pre software update was a little bit too much. Post software update - when driving in a spirited fashion and really pushing on it seems to "switch" to a different map and suddenly you get a lot of overrun.
So with standard + sport all the overrun is present.
This has led me to think that perhaps the early cars had a completely different version of code with different parameters for the driving modes and pops / bangs. This software update has perhaps brought the earlier cars into line with a later release that had different driving characteristics.

I had a 2014 V8S then a 2015 R convertible. Traded the 2015 in for a 2017 R coupe (arriving in 2 months). To sum up, the overrun and pops will be the same in dynamic plus sport when driving hard? and normal plus sport when driving easy?
Alarming to hear that Jaguar is messing with the exhaust sounds!!!!

According to the best available evidence, they're not. It now appears to be an unintended consequence of the O2 sensor reflash affecting 14 V8S cars only. No one has reported the issue w/ any other V8 or V6 model.

Normal - almost no overrun
Normal + Sport - Decent amount of overrun during "normal" (low speed, gentle acceleration between lights type stuff) city driving
Dynamic - Limited overrun during "normal" driving, more when pushing on
Dynamic + sport - No overrun with "normal" driving, lots of overrun with aggressive driving - heavy acceleration, lift off etc.
Normal + sport now sounds like my pre software update dynamic + sport
Dynamic + sport is now silent with normal driving whereas it used to be the nosiest mode by far. It comes alive with overrun when making progress.

Where did you find this info from as far as JLR are concerned mine is the only one confirmed so far?

We have dozens of reports from people who have had the reflash w/ no change in "snap, crackle, and pop."

We have exactly one other semi-documented report (total of 2 on this forum), and it is also an early '14 V8S. We have zero reports for the V6 base, V6S, or V8R, and no '15 V8S models. There is no '16 V8S model.
