Not just you, but I don't think there are "a lot of" failures - we just find out about the few. The engine in its various guises has been around since the good old days of the XK8 and is pretty bullet-proof - I had a 90,000 mile 4.2 XKR engine dump its oil on the road due to a burst pipe and when It was refilled and restarted it ran perfectly. 500 mile oil change to check things out and it ran sweetly after that. My mechanic was surprised and amazed at my "luck".

The engine failure in my 2016 at 42,000 miles was due to an O2 sensor update recall, or at least that's what they believed before they took it from me without any fuss and gave me a brand new 2019. Engine failure is one thing, curing the situation reasonably and without pushback is what keeps me here.

About to turn 50K on my very early production (October '16) 2017 R. CPO expires in July. I'm a bit nervous, but it's had a spotless service record since day one with it's only mechanical issue being 2 o2 sensors needing replaced within a few months of each other this past year. I did have a slight and inconsistent 'clunk or hesitation' in the rear end at low speed pull aways, but the dealership changed the rear diff fluid (under warranty) and the issue is resolved. It's my daily driver. Drives like a dream! Knock on wood!
