If you really want to know when you'll get your car, only work with a dealer that will be frank with when they can deliver.

Yes, it's all about the slot. Dealers know what they have in the upcoming months. Some are for customers, but some are just for stock. The stock ones can be changed to your specifics.

When I ordered in April, I was told that the dealer had three slots available for a June build. When I actually put the order in, the slots were pushed back to a July build.
But with the accelerated schedule for the 6sp F-types the actual build date ended up being the second week of June.
The bottom line is stay in touch with the dealer and get updated build sheets.
Good luck.

Thought the plant code was the 11th digit. The 4th character is part of the Vehicle Descriptor Section.

So it seems that the trains haul the cars to the port from both factories, and they pull them from the yard to fill the ship. It seems that the east coast manuals went on the Atlantic Cartier, the Midwest and southern ones went on Torino, and there is a third ship that that seems to be headed through the canal.
Update in Torino; it's now 2 days past due to show up in Halifax. I am beginning to worry a bit about Nessie.
Orkney.

If I recall correctly from previous members who freaked from a "return to shipper" message, it could mean they just didn't get loaded on that particular ship. It doesn't usually mean they're going back to the factory, just that they have not accepted custody at that point and are going back to the JLR staging area.

They probably always overbook. I would expect that depending upon the mix of vehicles sizes being transported, there's a lot of variability. In addition, I would guess certain "packer/parkers" are more efficient than others. They probably never know how many they can actually carry until the the loading is done.

Positions 4 through 8 or 9 are used for things vehicle model, drivetrain type, body style and things like that. Each vehicle maker uses different codes for these.
The most obvious theory here is that W is for the auto and X is for the manual transmission since this is the very first time we've seen them.
