Congrats, Lance! I'm very happy for you after such a long wait.

I would strongly urge you to drive it for a little while on the stock springs, so you have a frame of reference when you decide to switch, which I know you're clearly determined to do. That advice applies to your other anticipated mods as well.

Agreed. Can't do any dyno work until after the break-in and I do want to get a sense of the stock suspension before I start tweaking. That way I'll know if I might want to revert back if I'm not satisfied with the H&Rs.

Congrats Lance! Can't wait to get all the juicy details. I guess mine will be waiting for me when I am back from England at the end of the month, so I will live vicariously through your reports until then.

Thanks, all! Hoping to have the car back by Thursday. I'll be taking the day off to do some "reviewing". I'll report back ASAP.

Congrats on the new arrival!

I know you're planning on getting the car coated and clear bra installed - this guy has some tips (he has lots of great videos) on prepping a new car, and NOT letting the dealership touch it....

One possible concern (of mine) is that these special order cars are getting to the customer so quickly (relatively) that the paint may not have had time to fully out-gas and cure on delivery(?)

I was thinking the same thing. It may no longer be true with the more environmentally-friendly, low VOC paints, but I've frequently been told than an exterior finish takes 4-6 months to fully cure.

EDIT: Just looked at a few links online, and the rule-of-thumb now seems to be 60 days before any type of coating.

Lance, wasn't your car built in the first week of June?

I 'heard' 90 days, but its probably one of those things with some variance. In an ideal world, longer is better though (I imagine).

I'm hoping this is a function of a 2d map Alternatively, it's possible the captain has gone rogue and is taking my coupe!

EDIT: Looks like there's been a course correction

Yes, first week in June. I had been hearing 30 days was needed in recent years but I will now need to do some additional research. I really would rather not leave the car sit in the garage for the next 30-60 days, but I certainly want to do it right.

I emailed Larry Kosilla (larry@ammonyc.com - the guy who makes the detailing videos (one posted above)) asking him how long to wait, his advice is below. He seems very professional, as well as accessible (will take calls/emails on the subject). He works on a lot of high end cars, so I'm sure his advice is worth taking into consideration.

"It really all depends on how long since they been painted from the factory. At min they need to wait 60 days or so before adding any protection especially clear bra. Typically, by the time the car is received by the customer....its been a few weeks since its been painted, so the wait is usually not long.

Thanks for the heads-up, guys. Installer fully concurred. He had never run into a car that had gone from a European assembly plant to customer in that short a time. In my case, less than 4 weeks (location, location, location). He also told me to go drive it in the meantime. He'll address any blemishes that I cause in the meantime (JUST DON'T WASH).

On the plus side, Lance almost has his awesome car. Think we're all interested in MT reviews.

On the minus side, what are we going to do for entertainment without hourly updates?

The sites I looked at said washing was OK after 30 days as long as you use the two bucket method, a premium car wash soap, damp, clean, microfiber towels, and don't rub the finish completely dry.
