WRONG... Like my granddad told me once, "... if you can't afford it, take a loan. Then if you die early, you enjoyed money you never had to work for.."

Wrong...the one laying in the casket with the biggest $hit-eating grin is the winner.

Well, if your aim is that, you'd have to buy a LR3 or LR4 and hope to die driving it,
as these are widely renowned to induce a 'perma grin' ...

My FJ-40 has the same effect.

OK for road use, just not suited for high speed canyon carving.

I've beat an M5 off the line with it.

That's one nice 'cruiser.....I keep threatening to build one. Aqualu Industries is my neighbor right behind my shop and I have to look at those cool aluminum bodies every time I'm in my parking lot!

Cheers,

I'd wager that the FJ does better on pavement than the F type does in the bush! ;-)

I surely hope so, otherwise you wasted a lot of money...

But I think my D3 is far better on pavement then the FJ and [ with proper offroad tyres, which I never got ] , would be comparable or better in the bush..
Maybe some australian forum member can comment on that..

I know Toyota's are disered as they can be fixed with a bent screwdriver [ so to speak ], but from the D3 forum I know in South Africa they're keen on Landrovers,
as they offer unprecedented comfort offroad..

No doubt about that.

Yeah, I'm in constant battle with body rot on that beast. I have been pondering one of those aluminum bodies.

I don't even want to list the only three cars I have owned to date. It's very embarrassing
My list is also modest compared to some of the others. It all boils down to balancing resources and priorities, which are different for everyone. I think the common thread among auto enthusiasts is pride of ownership; walk around any Cars & Coffee (or similar meet), engage and discuss with owners of all types of vehicles, and it becomes apparent that the owner of the old, customized Civic is as proud of his personal ride as the owner of the new Lambo.

@Unhingd.
Wow, nice classics you had ! To find the same cars through history I have to join the lists of cars of at least 3 different [ long deceased..] family members, two generations older..

But the huge gap means you drove lease boxes for about 15years ? Or you lived in a city with no garage and high parking rates, so you commuted by public transport..

Although not an F-type owner, yet (still enjoy my two XKRs too much), I do follow the forum and find this thread very interesting. My list isn't as extensive but has some things of interest.

1969 Mercury Cougar Eliminator
1973 Mercury (German) Ford Capri
1978 Datsun 280Z (still own)
A series of Mercury Grand Marquis Station Wagons
1984 Volvo GL
1986 Mercury Sable Station Wagon
1988 German Ford Merkur Scorpio
1992 Chrysler Eagle Vision
1996 Dodge Grand Caravan
2001 Dodge Grand Caravan
2004 Chrysler Pacifica
1972 De Tomaso Pantera (coming back this week after a 4 year restoration/ serious modification)
1968 Pontiac GTO (next up for restoration)
1958 Corvette (being restomodded right now)
2002 Jaguar XKR convertible (getting back next week after restoration)
2010 Jaguar XKR coupe (daily driver)
2016 Lincoln MKX Black Label

I've probably forgotten 3 or 4 and have left out the kids' cars that we purchased over the years. And I am eagerly awaiting my first drive back in the Pantera with double the horsepower, 50% more torque and a new complete leather interior with C-4 leather covered, diamond quilted seats. I heard the engine fired up last week, and it is louder than an Ftype V8 could ever hope to be, simply shocking!

With the exception of the Mustang, they were all very enjoyable to drive in their own way.

Nope, never had a lease car and never had ready access to public transportation. I still drive the MINI, GMC & ‘76 FJ40 on a regular basis. From 1990 to 2016, never found a new car worthy of spending any money on.
I’ve only ever bought 4 new vehicles: the Mustang, Vette, GMC & F-Type. As indicated above, the Mustang was a huge mistake.
