I have a feeling that the numbers are going to be way worse than expected. Maybe only a tiny, almost insignificant, bit faster than the RWD. No where near Porsche 911 Turbo AWD territory.

Just a hunch though not based on any evidence.

The number was posted at the reveal. 3.9 seconds. Probably very conservative.

4.0 for the U.S. 4.1 for the EU.

Wait for the comparison tests. That's what really matters. The Jag is heavier so it won't beat the 911 at the track, but it certainly looks and sounds better. Also its much better at not being a Porsche.

The RWD V8 may have just gone up in value in my humble opinion. But you're right we need to run thorough tests.

Pretty much every F type, just like pretty much every Porsche, turns in test numbers that are considerably better than the official factory times. The AWD models will be no exception, and maybe by an even bigger margin than usual.

I don't think any manufacturer gives out 1/4 mile times. Probably for legal reasons. Only car magazines ever report 1/4 mile times.

Well, we have the real world numbers for the RWD V8 S/R and it varies between 3.4-3.7 0-60. I would suspect the AWD R knocks at least .2 to .3 off those numbers. I've seen numerous 11.8 @ 122-123mph and I would bet that the AWD R would hit 11.5 to 11.6 at traps of 124mph+.

Those are my numbers and I'm sticking to them.

but if it's only a little tiny bit better in the numbers, is that worth giving up the fun of a rear wheel drive?

The actual performance of the jaguar f type v8 will be impressive yet I believe considering that alone misses the mark on the value of this new vehicle.

The AWD is designed to broaden the market in snowy areas of the usa.

As an example I believe 85 percent of the German sedans are ordered with AWD.

Jaguar sedans sales have grown dramatically with the option of AWD this yar. As have maseratis.

AWD is essential for sales growth these days.

This is what most non enthusiasts want...so jaguar is obliging..

Enthusiasts get the benefit but let's be clear this is about increasing f type sales as many potential buyers feel AWD is a must have..

I suggest the jury is still out and we will find out the details as the journalists report back after the embargo lifts.

For the Porsche enthusiast ? The 100 plus thousand dollar carrera 4s vs either the RWD or AWD f type 550 hp r ? The outcome will be the same..

I like them both yet the stunning good looks of the jaguar makes my preference easy..

Wow!

Depends on the potential buyer. I would buy the AWD R in a heartbeat and I like to track cars and exploit their strengths just as much as the next guy but until a test drive is available one can only speculate how better or worse the AWD R will be. Because of the great balance the R has, I suspect the AWD will be a better "track" car.

I would be shocked silly if that weren't the case.

Agreed. This highly influenced my decision to wait for AWD.

I think this is absolutely right - the availability of AWD will help drive sales in places that don't necessarily have the benefit of our very mild Bay Area winters. There are of course performance benefits, too, but the lack of AWD will have hampered sales in many parts of this country and others.
