Default Will the Project 7 hold its value?

Didn't have any luck with this in off topic so i'm going to ask here.

Considering only 250 are to be made and here in Australia we are getting a whopping 5 of those 250 would it be worth buying one?

I have seen with the Lexus LFA the price has actually increased as they also a limited production run of 500

Interested to hear your thoughts.

Cheers,

Nick

Don't waste your time thinking about it. You'll never get your hands on one anyway. And, yes, even at time of initial purchase you will pay a substantial premium to MSRP, even if you succeeded in getting your hands on one.

I'm surprised they are producing only 250 of them. Generally, a manufacturer will produce an even 500 to qualify for homologation so the cars can be raced.

I swear I read something a month ago about Jaguar upping the production of the Project 7 significantly. Like to 1000 or more.

That would be awesome as there would be more out there, but if I was an initial buyer that would **** me off as well as it reduces the exclusivity by quite a bit.

I think it will remain coveted for quite awhile but probably won't hold its value that much better than other special editions based off of mass (relatively speaking) market products. I would love the original blue/white one.

That's why i asked the question, i have been offered the 5th and Final one as of yesterday. Only thing is here in Australia we generally pay double the RRP of cars not produced locally so for a project 7 we're talking ~ $350,000 AUD

Depending on how you look at it, it could be worth it (If it holds its value) or a colossal waste of money

And if it turns out to be Lemon down the road? I'd be thinking the waste of money. But there's the 350K gamble it could be awesome and worth it. Seen some epic fails though. (no help sorry)
But I can see you in it..

Yeah, it's not an easy decision, I've already had one complete lemon (R35) which i hope will be the worst decision i ever make.

Essentially the reason i posted is because by no means do i have money spewing from my pockets but were it to become a collectible or even sought after then i could justify the purchase.

It really depends on the market into which you expect to turn it over for a profit. If there is a strong demand in Australia for collector car, you might be onto something. However, given the limited population down under, I'm not certain collector cars will generate the demand necessary to turn a profit.

Here in the States, I suspect it will be years maybe a decade or more before that vehicle could command US$ 285k. Then again, I might be surprised.

The thing that is starting to deter me is the fact that surely if we're only getting 5 how did i get my name onto the list, as far as Jaguar are concerned i'm a nobody.... Where are the Jag collector's, CEO's etc.
Also i'm wondering what caused the previous person to jump ship.

What do these guys know that i don't, something seems fishy here.

My own sense is that it will be a long time before the project 7 has any true collector value and an appreciation curve. It's a very cool car, but I'm far from convinced it's collectible classic in the making. It's a curiosity, not a collector. That it's being offered in the way it is tells you all you need to know.

I can assure you, the brand new aluminum E-Type will have an immediate massive collectors' value: Jaguar Resurrects Its Most Classic Car: The Aluminum E-Type: Video - Bloomberg

That may be so, but that's not the car the OP asked about

Thanks guys, it's good to get some actual discussion going. at this point i'm leaning towards a no on the 7 and will probably go with The supercharged 8 coupe.
