Default Wind noise from driver side window, how to approach retailer

Hi all,

My 2015 F-Type has started to make annoying wind noise coming from the driver window. I can literally hear wind coming in between the two pieces of glass and if I drive above 80mph it turns into a whistling noise which is unbearable. Anyone who sits in my car notices the loud noise once we are driving above 60mph.

The car is under 4 year manufacturer warranty still. I took the car to the Stevens Creek Jaguar in San Jose, CA today. The support person told me "squeaks and rattles are not covered under warranty". Is this acceptable? I don't think there is any user error involved in causing this issue.

The support person was also really rude and kept saying if I hear a noise above 60mph he can't repeat it because he can't go above speed limits (speed limit is 65 with allowance for faster). I told him I can drive it and he resisted saying there is traffic etc. Before we got into the car he kept asking if I was in an accident, and while we drove he'd say he can only hear exhaust even when the noise was pretty loud. Very disappointing experience on that front. I never had this with Bmw or Volvo service, but maybe that particular person was the issue.

Do you think I have any chances getting such issue diagnosed and fixed under manufacturer warranty? I'm going to give a try to San Francisco retailer but wanted to get some advice from folks here before I potentially end up dealing with disturbing customer service people again.

Thanks a lot!

I would first look at the 'window reset' procedure in your manual. Perhaps the window isn't closing tightly.

But I seem to recall possible issues with window trim that could cause this. Others will chime in.

Not an acceptable response from dealer in my opinion.

Thanks for the response. Window reset did not help, I think there is a slight misalignment or the seal got damaged in rain.

Update: I think I noticed what is going on. I compared passenger side window to driver's side and the noisy one has about 2mm wider gap. The window isn't aligned properly and my guess is in the time the seal got worn out (or maybe the window moved). That creates a small gap. I actually tucked in a piece of paper and that helped reduce the noise. I hope this is something they'll fix under warranty because I don't think I've done anything to cause that.

The issue you are seeing should get fixed by warranty. When I had gotten my R had the same issue the drivers window squeaked when it closed and they replaced the weather strip and it was good after.

None of the bay area dealer are all that great, but from what I understand, Stevens Creek is possibly the worst. I've heard good things about Cole European but have not experienced them myself. Kind of a ways for you but might be worth it. Good luck & give us a report!

I may get flamed but I don't care... I drove at least 20 F-Type, they all make the noise. Some people are far more sensitive hearing at certain frequencies, as a matter of fact my wife and two of my friends don't hear it at all but it bothers me a lot ONLY when the car is not in S, Dynamic and the exhaust is closed... what I call relaxing stealth mode.

At first I had the same exact reaction as you, I had my wife drive it and she looked at me as if I had 3 heads.

Perhaps try calling Cole European in Walnut Creek, it’s a bit of a drive with traffic- but they seem to be the only ones I found who will at least try and help.

Good luck!
