Default Windshield Delamination

Hey everyone,

I was hoping someone can assist in guiding me on what I can do to fix delamination on a windshield. I don't want to replace it as the windshield is in good condition!

Any ideas how this might have been caused?
Never seen this on any of my vehicles - ever!
Plus, I guess it is just too late but surely this would have been a warranty item?

Possibly a silly thought, but could this have anything to do with the heated windshield option perhaps? Just throwing it out there without knowing for sure. I've heard people mention that cars with that option can be weird to look through sometimes etc, perhaps due to something added in terms of a laminate that could do this? Not sure.

No, it will not be delaminating because of the heating element. I’ve used the heated screens in Jaguars for decades with absolutely no issue of this sort.

The comments regarding vision through the screen relate to the very fine wires and how they can affect vision at night with approaching headlamps…and these day the problem is much worse because of the too-bright and too-high headlamps on trucks and SUVs.

K, wasn't sure if there was extra lamination for those windshields vs the regular one...Guess not...

Could the heating element have contributed in some way? Who knows. Dry out some glues or something...That kinda thing...

No, again. The heating wires do not extend to the edges of the screen.

Never seen/heard of the problem in other Jags. It's a pain to deal with, but only going to get worse.

I'm wondering if you could get it replace under your Comprehensive insurance - like a crack would be. Worth checking with your local glass shop. They probably have some experience with the issue and know the best way to deal with the insurance company.

I have visited 2 auto shops and both of them have stated the Jaguar Land Rover puts a protective/UV Coating. And the delamination is quite common!

They have told me a few options such as putting a vinyl wrap over the border of the windshield to reduce the overall look of it. As well as just replacing the windshield unit.

I was also at the dealership and they said that it isn't classified as a "Manufacturers Defect" which boggles my mind.

But I appreciate the info on talking to my insurance provider and seeing if they can cover a replacement. But most of them need proof that it's "not safe" for road standards. You can't see it from the inside it's just the outside

I have cheap pair of sunglasses that done exactly the same, and they are not even made by JLR!!!

I would guess it is a "wear and tear" item for the insurance unless you just happen to get stone damage.

Interesting that yours is the first post I've seen anywhere in years with this problem - it clearly isn't all that common.

I would say, that if the windshield is delaminating, it no longer qualifies as "good condition". Replace it. The windshield provides a significant portion of torsional stability in the car.

I had the same issue with both my S-type and my XF. In the case of my S-type it started doing it after about 9 years, so I just sold the car without doing anything about it, With the XF, it started to delaminate after about 5 years. I had the windshield replaced and the insurance company paid for it in full (I have zero deductible on glass as I've had to replace many windshields). It's been years since the replacement (with a Jaguar OEM windshield) and I still have the car with issues with the windshield. BTW, neither car had a heated windshield although the S-type had what they called a heated wiper park that I guess is supposed to keep the wipers from icing up when it snows.
